If there was a Blue Island Police Chief, he would be responsible. There is no Police Chief, no one to hold responsible. If you attend the city council meeting and ask the Mayor Vargas. He will say he will look into it, and never get back to you.

Heard the same series of shots. Watched the same copter. I've "inquired" about similar occurrences over recent years, to no avail. Neither BIPD, city officials, "news" paper ever informs residents. Must be "black ops".........

ask deputy chief Cornell, he claims to be the acting chief, or the new commander Sisk, thats part of the job. My question is, why the F#@( do we have to ask why a helicopter is hovering and gunshots are heard ? shouldn't the public be warned to stay in doors or something ? Cornell is all over the cable tv, I would call city hall and demand some comment from the (acting chief) deputy chief cornhole, I mean cornell. If not, call the news, they will find out. John Rita is the director of public safety, he has an email and phone number on the city website, and Blue Island police are on facebook, ask on there, maybe cornell will answer you there

And just how do you suppose the public be warned of this? Should they get on a megaphone and wake everyone up? Oh wait....you mentioned DC Cornell all over cable tv. Yes, he should quick make a video for everyone to watch and be notified while they are sleeping. Great idea! Sorry, but I think I would rather the police chase the "offender" and take care of the situation rather than going door to door waking people up to tell them to stay inside. If you would like officers to do that, pay extra money so BI can have more police on duty. And......if I woke up and saw multiple police cars outside and I heard a helicopter, I really don't think I'd be going out of the house anyway.

Residents need to be informed when their safety is in jeopardy. Some Communities send out a phone alerts to inform residents of dangerous conditions. You could just turn off your phone if you didn't care. Having teenagers who work late and travel home at late hours concerns me. I want to know if I need to have them stay at a friends home.

I understand your concern, as I have children myself. Instead of people figuring out a solution to the problem, they just want to play keyboard warrior on here and bash. There's nothing wrong with making a suggestion like you just did or expressing your concerns to the city.

Are you looking in my window? Do you know what I'm doing? Can you see me drinking my water? If it makes you feel better to say I'm drinking, then you run with that keyboard warrior :)

yes, I agree with easy girl, take a valium. Most communities have a phone notification system for emergencies, school closings, tornadoes, ect. The option is yours, turn your phone off If you want, but the warning should be there! If there was a notification warning of a dangerous fugitive in the area, and I heard or saw something strange out of my window or heard strange noises, I would be more apt to call Police rather than roll over and go back to sleep. It's not rocket science, but it sure seems like it struck a nerve with you . Maybe, the people wouldn't open their doors and get in the way of the police who are searching for an offender, if the people knew it wasn't safe to open their doors Einstein! Been there! done that ! Most times 911 callers tell the police where the bad guy is hiding. Go back to schuffling paper and leave the police stuff to us. Patrol officers are treated like they are stupid by the status quo in the department, but some of us stay in patrol because we actually know what we are doing. Carry on ! you are dismissed as another know it all who obviously did not spend enough time learning to patrol before being promoted into the realms of superstardom. A real patrol officer welcomes the publics' help and information to keep everyone safe. Either you are an alderperson or a really sorry excuse for a police officer, and yes I can tell you drank the blue island water.
