I just moved here from Missouri and was wanting to know if Midlothian has a law about burning? I have Tree limbs and Shrubs that I cleaned up and wanted to find out? Can I put them in a Pit or can they be in a outdoor container or not at all? I don't want to upset any neighbors before I get to know them. Thank You.

I think technically you might need a permit, but you'll probably be fine if you have them in a pit, and also no leaves because some are sensitive to the smell.

I was told a couple of years ago, small fires have to have mesh covers, such as a back yard fire pit.

New Resident we have our code online now. I'm searching for an exact answer for you because I remember hearing this was not allowed without contacting the village first. So far this is all I found.

8-2-7: RECEPTACLE REQUIRED:

(A) It shall be the duty of every owner, agent, occupant or lessee of any house, building, flat, apartment, business, school, library, church, lodge hall or any other premises to maintain in good order and repair, a container for garbage and to keep their property clean and free from any accumulation of garbage, refuse or ashes at all times.

(B) No person shall burn refuse or garbage of any kind in the village, except that controlled fires are permitted if they are specifically authorized by the mayor and village board.(Ord. 1817, 12-12-2012)

Btw, from the village website you can click on our code or go directly here.

Here. Found a better one actually.

4-18-16: RUBBISH AND GARBAGE:
(D) Violations: With regard to residential or commercial properties, the following shall be a violation of this chapter:

4. Burning Garbage Or Leaves: To burn any garbage, refuse, leaves, grasses, weeds or any other vegetation or plant material except that the burning of elm tree wood and prunings of elm trees on the premises where it is produced shall be permitted, as may be necessary, to control the spread of the Dutch elm disease; provided, however, that all required permits from the county of Cook, Illinois, the state of Illinois or the United States government have been obtained for such burning.

This from the Village of Midlothian website:
http://villageofmidlothian.net/index.aspx...

Yard Waste
Between April 1st and November 30th Allied will pick up yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, twigs, etc.). It is to be placed loose in your container with the yard waste sticker affixed to the container and easily visible to the driver. These stickers are free of charge and may be picked up at the Village Hall or Public Works Garage offices. You may also use the paper lawn bags available for purchase at most hardware and home improvement stores. You may put out branches that you have trimmed; you must bundle them in no longer than four foot sections and pile them neatly for pickup. Keep in mind Allied is not a tree service, so be reasonable with your pile.

Hope this helps and welcome to Midlothian!

New Res, on the left hand side are clickable sections of the code. You just click on the words you want to read about on the left, and they show up on the right. :) Think of it like bookmarks.
