Which mayor, ninny? Peloquin appointed everyone on the board. Vargas appointed, let's see, NOBODY. Go to a board meeting. tell the trustees they are puppets for an 'ex mayor. We can only imagine the stunned silence, confused looks and, finally, politely stifled guffaws, furtive chuckles, hoo-haws and belly laughs from the trustees. I can only hope you removed your tinfoil hat on entering the meeting or everyone will really tag you as a wacko.

You are the one that should have the confused expression.... The mayor DOES NOT pick and choose the trustees, the Library Board Does after reviewing each candidate and voting on them! The name of the person CHOSEN BY VOTING by the LIBRARY BOARD is given to the mayor to "appoint" as a mere formality, that's all. It seems you are unaware that the Library is a separate entity and is run by its Board, who by the way, votes on everything so no decisions are made by a single person. Library Board meetings are open to the public so why don't you go to one and learn something before shooting your mouth off about something you don't know anything about, or do you really enjoy making a fool out of yourself? If the Library was controlled by City Hall the mayor wouldn't have had to Ask the Library for a loan (which was refused), and also, there wouldn't have been any money available in the first place because it would have been used up by the City long ago and the Library would be broke just like the City is!!!!!

Here is a really great warming center for the homeless; New Orleans, Louisiana! It is a straight shot right down the Des Plaines/Illinois/Mississippi River. All you have to do is tie a couple logs together and let the river currents take you on down!

Hey, the mayor has taken in a homeless man .
Marc Perez has been out of work and homeless for quite some time now.
We should all take someone in and help them out with food and clothes, why Marc is living better than ever and he's a hell of a guy.

The Mayor has his reasons for doing the things he does. He need not explain his reasons. Besides if it's his personal life you question, then I'm sure many would ask the same of you.
But like so many who have it in for the Mayor you sit bravely behind your computer and hurl insults and innuendo without facts to see if it sticks. Shameless. You & others have done so against Betty Harmeyer too. My family has known the Mayor & Betty for a very long time and they are decent & caring people.
Much more so from what I can gather of you and this posting.

This sounds like you are a Blue Island city employee who has nothing better to do on this Friday afternoon. When your hold public office, you have no personal life. They can dish out, but they cant take it.

This forum should be quiet this week end. All the city workers are going home. And the Mayor is out of town.

My post was not an insult but a fact. It states that the mayor took someone into his home whom has no job, and that he is helping him out.As for the mayor having reasons for doing things are you refering to the hire of John Rita and letting qualified people go you need your head checked . Fact the Harmeyers have six waste cans next to their garage but are not paying for six cans!!!!!!

The library is NOT a "warming center".
It is a publicly funded meeting place and creative centre.
Children and young adults learn and grow, however looking at seedy "Aqualung" characters is not growth - unless you are a reality tv addict.
Is this what you want to subject your children to?
The unfortunate element do accost patrons and damage property.
The library staff calls the police - taking the police away from more important duties.
Is this your definition of the proper use of a public educational and resource facility?
I think not, and do not want my taxpayer dollars used capriciously.
The library is a gem that the city politics has little to no effect on.

There are "warming centers" out there and yes, the homeless know where they are. I've talked to one in particular for many years as I have dropped off food, clothes, blankets, and money. I've offered a ride to which I was told......."if I wanted to go there, I would". There is also a flyer at the BI library for an organization called South Suburban Pads. They offer free, emergency, overnight shelter, 7pm - 7am , Oct.1st, 2013 thru April 30th, 2014.
