You are why this city is a DUMP. That is your reasoning (Ald. Vierya would not have a fund raiser to honor Fred.) If we have such low standards we get low income. Vierya is as dumb as a bag of hammers, Let us find people who are qualified to hold these offices. Not some dumb-ass reason.

Based on State Rep Bob Rita dismal voting record, and the dire financial condition he has help to put this State in. I would say Alderman Vierya could do a much better job.

Illinois GOP leaders sue over Dems’ new district map:‘They should be ashamed’

SPRINGFIELD — The General Assembly’s top two Republicans filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday seeking to undo the set of House and Senate boundaries that Gov. Pat Quinn approved that could give Democrats a decade-long legislative stranglehold.

House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) and Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) allege in the lawsuit that the Democratic map violates the federal Voting Rights Act of 1965 by depriving black and Latino voters a “fair opportunity” to have their voices heard in the redistricting process.

They contend that the map violated the state Constitution because too little time for public and legislative review was set aside by ruling Democrats and because districts are not compact as the Illinois Constitution dictates.

They also say that the map violates the First Amendment rights of GOP voters because it “dilutes” their voting power.

“The Democrats passed a map this session that we believe is in direct violation of the Federal Voting Rights Act and some of our most basic rights under the constitution,” Cross said in a prepared statement.

“They should be ashamed of themselves. We are optimistic that the court will agree with us and will help give our residents a fair map that accurately reflects our population, especially our growing Latino population,” he said.

Now how in God's green earth does this apply to Alderman Vierya & Robert Rita? What a waste of bandwidth. Where does this sad example anal retentiveness come from? Bad parenting?

She must get in it to win it. It seem's the progressive party is talking her out of it, to put all the support behind Bob Rita.

Tommy why don't you get in it? It is a African American district, you would be a great state rep.

A little presumptuous about this aren't we? The Mexican population is younger and growing larger, more active, more organized & vocal each year. And what is left of the Anglo population still is a force to deal with. They will no doubt ally themselves with the Mexicans to make the election interesting.
I would not count my chicks before they hatch. How do you think Daley stayed in office so long. He used the Mexicans as his ace in the hole.

If we can get her on the ballot, it would certainly make the Election very exciting. Who knows where the challenge of the new election map will take us. If the Speaker supports her it would certainly help him in the Hispanic community which he desperately needs. She is the best choice in the 28th.

A CALL FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

SPRINGFIELD - Erwin McEwen, the Blagojevich-appointed director of Illinois' Department of Children and Family Services, took on the job of protecting some of the most vulnerable in our society. He enlisted a close friend and mentor, Dr. George E. Smith, to assist with several programs working with children deeply in need. Part of Dr. Smith's responsibilities included overseeing local area programs, such as Youth At Risk and Head Start.

Owning four different private businesses that reportedly offered those consulting services for which our tax dollars paid, the Governor's Inspector General investigated Smith's activities while contracted with the DCFS. The IG declared "founded" numerous allegations of Smith blatantly disobeying Illinois statutes and then refusing to cooperate when the IG's office asked for explanation.

In a 201-page report made available to the public Monday, the IG recommends the state of Illinois pursue civil and criminal charges against Smith, along with other disciplinary actions towards other state employees involved in the scheme.
