I've been down state, county and several other municipalities the last two days. They all at least look like they are being plowed. I've seen one plow make one pass on my street in the last 36 hours. The curbs can't be seen. I've shoveled 3 times and have to keep moving cars around. I'm waiting for the curbs so I can finally dig out. Where are the plows?

Grow a set of balls and call the city. Otherwise STFU.

Rich, I'm sure you are well aware that the busy streets are plowed 1st, then the residential.

Your post shows that you posted 7 hours before mine, so that would make it around 3pm. Wasn't it still snowing then? Don't you think that they would be plowing on 159th, Cicero, 167th, Central, etc., before they get to your street? Don't you think that they are keeping those streets as clean as possible to prevent accidents? We had 8.8 inches of snow! Get a snow blower dude! Clean out your garage and put your cars in there!

Is this your 1st winter in the Midwest???

By the way, I think Oak Forest does a phenomenal job plowing!

My thought was that they waited until DPW started today rather than calling them in and paying double time for a holiday, which I really don't have a problem with.

Hey OFR, I got a set. Nobody answered at dpw, do you believe that. Colloquy, I realize they do the arterials first. But after a few runs they hit the side streets at least once. Once! Not over here in the 7th ward. 50 Chicago winters under my belt.

I hate to release this bombshell but the "busy streets" are plowed by either the County or State Highway Dept's. Residential streets are the only streets plowed by the City Plows.

Your aldermans phone number and email is at the city site. Call them, unless theyre out backslapping themselves for ficknig you on the water rates again.

Do the city officials have to pay the increases on water and sewer just like the rest of us? I would think so cause they all live here too and I don't think they get services for free. So if they vote for an increase they have to pay it along with us, right?

Thanks for that correction Normie. Somewhere in the back of my mind I knew that.

They're doing a great job on my street today!

Colloquy, where do you live? Does a council member live on your block? Since the New Years Eve storm I have not seen the curbs. Your block may be nice and clear. I've seen a lot of the city that's not. And I'm talking since New Year's Eve!

I am neither a council member or mayor, nor do I have any of the aforementioned people on my block. And I won't tell you where I live...I want to keep all the snow plows to myself!!!

But seriously, call your Alderman (woman). Not that they can do anything now with this Polar Vortex looming over us, but when it finally lets up, they may plow again. They want to be re-elected, and want to know if someone has issues in their ward.

Go lay in front of one of the plows and do us all a favor.
I don't think that would work. The snow plows don't go down his street...remember? haha

The reason our water rates have increase is because the City of Chicago raised rates by 25%, They provide our water to Oak Lawn who raised rates to pay Chicago's increase and rebuild an antiquated system that provides water to us in Oak Forest. It's in all the papers and has been for the past 2 years. The rise in rates should be no surprise to any informed citizen. Here's another choice for you...move to another suburb or better yet Indiana-the promised land or somewhere you can dig your own well

Well, that explains why Oak Forest DOUBLED the increase from Chicago couple yrs.ago. The 25% rate increase from Chicago = 50% INCREASE to O.F. water consuming residents! That also does a fine job of explaining the $15 service charge on the invoice. Another thing you might consider that we are loosing near 20% of water delivered vs. water paid for and nobody cared to take any action till this year and of course the damaged water tank was worse than originally expected. Reminds me of a Band-Aid on a broken leg. WE pay for those negligent loses on our water bill. Did you consider all the different expenses charged to the water fund? WE already pay MWSD for sewerage treatment on our property tax bill. Anything in the papers over the last 2 yrs on why our sewerage charge to O.F. went up 20% last month ? Given any research effort to what other municipalities charge their residents? Happen to pay any attention to the new water pact with Oak Lawn ? Almost a million bucks passed on to residents of Oak Forest for a lift/pump station at 163 & Central that has no benefit what so ever to Oak Forest ! Can you recall reading in the papers who is resposible/accountable for the latest water boner? Did I miss that? 12 mil+ for new redundant pipe line to Oak Lawn is going to have a considerable impact on your water bill. The other municipalities on the water line have planned ahead, and saved $ for the new water line in consideration of the $$$ impact on their RESIDENTS... Any explanation available on how leadership planned ahead in O.F.? The term "Chicago" just doesn't explain away all the unplesant facts ! Might want to consider that anyone responsible for some of this be held accountable !!!

It makes sense to those of us who (or is it whom?) pay for services thru our taxes and get poor response ad results.

I got out and shoveled a trough to my covered sewer because rain was in the forecast. The snow was 3-4 feet from the the curb. Well done dpw.
