The Illinois Constitution mandates that the railroad company that owns the tracks are obligated to keep them in full repair. I have spent time trying to discern who actually owns the tracks and have fallen short, although a letter to Metra wouldn't hurt. Also, the Illinois Commerce Commission may be another option. They inherited the Railroad and Warehouse Commission after the Commission was absorbed by the Public Utilities Commission in 1913. The ICC took over the PUC in 1921 and still has authority Over THE rails.

Tracks are the responsibilty of Metra. Call them, your Congressman, or Channel 7 I Team. Seriously.

The tracks and the land they are on are known as the "right of way". The upkeep of the right of way is the responsibility of the railroad, not the village. Those tracks are owned and maintained by the Rock Island.

Rock Island is no more, Metra and the Iowa Interstate R.R. are the users of the track.

Metra is ultimately responsible, but they won't do shit about it until spring. Why would they try to fix them when the ground is still freezing and heaving?

How about the fact that even at a slow speed, axles break, tires pop and when the roads are this icy even a talented and skilled driver such as yourself (I assume) can lose control of your vehicle. Most importantly, it's our patriotic duty to hold those accountable for disrepair of public highways, especially in this era of astronomical fraud and theft being reported including but not limited to Metra.

Hey Rails...doesn't Chicago fill in potholes in the winter? Although I agree with you about the expanding and contracting posing a problem, I thought there was temporary material able to address this issue...

We live in this town and therefore Midlothian represents us. If we pay our taxes then why wouldn't the responsibility be with the village to contact the railroad. These tracks have been like this to long, get off your lazy butt and make some calls MAYOR who ever the hell you are.

Well as we drive around our village many of our streets are not in that much better condition than the RR crossing. I know there is a very limited budget for paving. And this winter will not be our friend either so off roading we go.
