What a Crock - St Damian School!

What is going on with St. Damian? The pastor has his thumb on everything, instead of letting good people do their jobs. Why get he rid of the principal? He shakes your hand and hugs everyone, but is ruining that school. Glad to be finished after this year.

Father Joe is attempting to improve the school, that's his job as pastor. A new principal is needed to do that. Eventually a few teachers will be replaced. I'm sure you are a friend of the principal here to defend her, which is understandable. But sometimes a change is good for both sides.

Politics are hurting the school, and her office is ground zero.

We have a wonderful new pastor and the most amazing new principal I ever seen at St. Christopher now. We are always welcoming new students.

The Pastor is supposed to have his thumb on everything, he's in charge. Why is that so hard to understand? Everyone complained when Meaney was there and they couldn't wait for Fr. Joe. Now that he's settled in and sees what needs to be done, he's the bad guy. He can't just let her go without a reason. And do you really we need to know the failures of the principal? I don't think all her teacher/girlfriends want that aired either. Cleaning House, way to go Joe!!

I like Fr. Joe and believe he has the school's best interest in mind. I do have some issues with the principal, which others agree on and have been brought to her attention. However, some have not improved. I also think she has the best interest of the school in mind. Making a clean break from teacher to admin is difficult, especially at the school you've taught at. Both the pastor and principal have been made aware of short comings at the school. Not all of them are the principal's fault, she is just the fall guy, unfortunately.

Oh, do tell? What's going on there? Who's on the chopping block? Who's planning her going away party? I'm sure the 8th graders will be forgotten about so everyone can mourn the loss of the principal. Once again the kids are not the focus. What's being said? What's the reason behind her leaving?

Parents were given a letter stating all teachers, including "specials" have been asked back.

I think some things have changed since the first announcement. I guess a few will be leaving and a few more have been put on notice.

Well if any are leaving, not by their choice, the letter sent out within the last two weeks contained mis truths. This, if true, concerns me.

There are going to be a lot of changes at the end of the year. Fr. Joe is not required to tell parents of his changes or the resons behind those changes.

He may not be required, but I think he should give explanations for his actions regarding teachers being kept/let go. We do pay a lot of money, by choice, for our children to attend there, and yes, I do believe he does need to offer an explanation when a teacher isn't asked back. He doesn't have to go into great detail, but simply something like, "we don't feel they were teaching to their potential," or "they weren't good fit for our school and our mission." My point was that a letter went out stating ALL teachers were asked back, if the school now changes their mind or was not telling the truth, the mistruths concerns me. Absolutely they can change their mind, for the better of our school.

How much does the school board come into play here? You know the one with the lady who has her husband as the janitor and son as the summer help. She seems to have a little too much say here.

Renee The secretary? Since when is she on the School Board? The School Board does not have anything to do with firing teachers. That would be the Pastors decision, usually after some type of review or observation. Or possibly even after complaints brought against teachers.

I guess the janitor is being cut back, and the gym teacher. The principal is a much bigger issue than most people know. Glad she is going.

The janitor? But he & his wife run the place. What's the bigger problem with the principal? I still think the school is just too much of a "friends club". They're just in it for themselves. Why else would you have let go of a wonderful young (male) Spanish teacher due to lack of hours, and then the next year hire your (Italian) friend back? Even after it took her 10 years to get her certificate, and getting fired for not having it.

""Spanish teacher due to lack of hours, and then the next year hire your (Italian) friend back? Even after it took her 10 years to get her certificate, and getting fired for not having it.""""

Recently I learned that this teacher actually NEVER did go back and receive the teaching certificate as we were all informed!!. Parents are now just finding out about that "misinformation". Domke wanted her friend back, and fired an excellent Spanish teacher in the process! Many thought she would have been a good thing for St. Damian, she definitely had a vested interest in making it succeed. However, she is driven by politics and her friends.

Often she is very cold and indifferent to parents when she sees them, unless they are her friends. Definitely not the atmosphere a principal should be creating for our school. This was even the case when she was a teacher. The old Spanish teacher (Mr Martinez) was wonderful and made a big difference, and the kids liked him too. But Math, is a joke in the junior high. The teachers, her friends all think she is amazing until they have their own child in her class. The gym teacher hasn't done his job for years, and many of the kids will tell you jif you ask them. In other grade schools, there is actual learning going on in gym class, ours is a joke and everyone knows it. Too much politics in that school. Unless Fr. Noonan puts and end to it, the future of our parish could be in jeopardy. There are some wonderful teachers at St. Damian that deserve a great deal of credit for all their hard work, dedication and sacrafice. Hopefully people won't forget what they have done for so many children over the years. The job of a teacher must be very difficult. But imagine having to do the work that is expected of you and you have to deal with all this nonsense.

Fr. Joe, is doing his best. He is a CPA and has worked many years in the business world. He comes from a background of where education is very important. His mother is Bobbi Noonan, and she has been quite successful over the years. Fr. Joe knows what he is doing, but he is taking one step at a time and trying to do the best he can with the circumstances left by Fr. Meany. I think we should give him the benefit of the doubt, he needs our support to make the changes we have all been complaining about for years! It doesn't happen over night.

Word is going around that the archdiocese is coming in to walk the principal and a few other teachers out the door before the end of the school year.
