does tinley need a full time fire dep...
got gas at Thorntons

#123 Jan 29, 2013
I was at Thorntons on 159th street getting gas when there was a car accident. Like everyone else I watched ( I couldn't help it). An ambulance and fire engine showed up from Orland and then a Trace ambulance and a fire engine from Tinley.

I dont know anything about fire departments but, it was very obvious who worked well together (the 2 Orland crews) and who didn't (Tinley firemen and the paramedics from Trace.)

Not here to make anyone mad but it was terribly obvious.

The problem is the tinley firefighters and trace medics do not work or train together like Orland firefighters for. Orland medics are firefighters as well. And they all work together every shift. All the firefighters in Orland are paramedics. No matter if they are on an engine or van ambulance. That's not the case in Tinley. If tinley firefighters were full time, with their own ambulance things would work so much better. But it in is what it is. As last long as the current village idiots are in power it will not chance. They are holding on to something that was outdated about 15 Years ago when tinley was still being built up and it was half the population that it is now. And the residents obviously are clueless on what they are really missing out on.

Exactly. Trying to get on a fire department.... Meaning you don't devote 100 percent of your skills to the task at hand because your worried about oral interviews and testing for UNION fire departments. Good luck kid you'll get on one day
The Union has screwed up every suburban fire department out this way, Don't say its for safety its not you don't work for a fire department you work for a (the Union) look at every full- time unionized department they lost the pride they in the community, The community should be the fire department not a group of old men waiting to retire from a job that should of been part-time, what we have now are a bunch of crybabies that need 5 towns to put out a house fire, and most of the time a F.F gets hurt, was not like that in the past

all uneducated comments. all we need is Tinley fire to contract out an ambulance service that will put ambulances in the stations!!!! Not coming from Crestwood

Uneducated? Trace has not had the crestwood contract in about a year now. And they lost several manor care contracts as well. Why? Because trace sucks! They have some great medics, but not nearly enough to make them as a whole worth it. They should contract Kurtz to do everything. Start there and things will be so much better.

Wow, I guess the medic license I carry at the firehouse is a different medic license that I carry on the privates then? Was not aware of this. I shall contact my resource hospital and notify them of this terrible mistake.

OK, when I worked for a private service on an ALS ambulance. The only actual emergency call I had was on the way back from a transport to Homewood for difficulty breathing at a nursing home. We were 20 minutes out from there. And I worked for them for 2 years. That was the only non-transport call I had. So. The license is the same but the truth is private companies we ant the transports for the money. They are glorified taxi cabs. In fact my EMT instructors all called privates that 15 years ago. And he worked for one. My paramedic instructors all said the same thing. Not to mention its a revolving door. Somewhere to keep up with all the con-ed until you get a real job. Privates suck. Open your eyes Tinley Park.

I would have been pissed doing transports all day too. Should have worked for a company that does more. Also, way to be completely off topic. Share your war stories with an EMT class because nobody here cares.

Why does Tracy ambulance run lights and siren from nursing homes to hospitals, when they get the call 5 hours in advance,

I hear that the FD will start running EMS call along side the contract medics. How true is that? And its about time if thats the case. They need the help. Only 2 medics on a call while other full time depts. Have another crew respond and help. Being a paramedic can't be easy and help is always a good thing for everyone involved. Let's hope we see this happen. Unless the useless administration that runs the Fire Dept is still scared of EMS and everything else they just don't understand.

If ambulance runs are getting talked about, its being kept extremely quiet. I can tell you what is getting talked about, and that is how to justify the purchase of that truck they took delivery of in May of 2013. They changed their whole operation, for example. A car accident no matter where it is at in town that truck goes and the closest vehicle does not anymore, calls such as carbon monoxide and other citizen assistance calls of that nature no matter where in town, that truck goes and the closest vehicle does not anymore. Automatic aid and box alarms that truck goes regardless, no other vehicles go on these types of calls anymore. Keep in mind this truck has no pump, no water, and no hose on it. So if some people say a full time department is a waste of money, then what do you call it when you have a part time department with roughly 2,000 calls a year paying 3 out of 4 fire stations to sit around while one of the stations handles just about everything?

What the hell are you talking about. That truck goes along with the closest rig. Not instead of the closest rig. Get your facts straight before you go back off on a rant and have no idea what your talking about.

I agree with you. And I think people just like to talk out of their ass when they truly don't know what's going on.

Who cares... I know that junk was told not to come to my town anymore. Give tinley some time and they will do what everyone else did with there pumpless trucks. Reserve. I do get a laugh though when they send 2 trucks to the expressway or my favorite is when that new truck was sent to a car fire by itself. oops let my guess, blame their dispatch, right?

Why is Tinley Park paying some private ambulance service? The tax payers pay out the ass for a contract service where the employees have absolitly no vested interest in the community they serve. Not to mention your lucky to get the same medics more than a few times. Plus you are getting billed for 100% of the cost. Now look at the surrounding communities, they have full time Fire with an ambulance. They bill the residents insurance and stop there. Considering the tax payers are already paying for the service. They take whatever the insurance gives them and it ends there. Not with Trace. They will bill the insurance and you are responsible for the rest. If you don't have insurance, your screwed. Not the case with a full time fire dept. Not to mention. The ambulance actually makes.money after awhile. Obviously there are initial costs that will take time to get back. But there is usually money to be made and given back to the village or fire district. Plus it would be better quality for the residents. Someone who cares about the community they serve. Hopefully the village idiots, I mean officials open their eyes. And the residents need to open their eyes as well and see that the contract medics are not the way to go.
