While this is a laudable goal - heralded by Candi Carr and other merchants - and something we always try to follow ...the unfortunate reality is that we can't - unless we want our nails done, hair done, a money order, fast food or something from the dollar store (which we love family dollar).

However. I can't buy Shirts, shoes, pants, ties,...office supplies...books ... Electronic gear ... We need a quality department store ...some quality restaurants ...

I hope these are actively being sought by the Vargas administration and the Chamber of Commerce (what do they do anyway besides give each other awards??)

The last good business to come to Blue Island was Aldi, however not everything can be purchased there.
El Ranchito is good in a pinch but unless you carry a link card who can afford to do regular shopping there on a regular basis? It is shameful that Blue Island can not secure a big box supermarket, other cities seem to have no problem accomplishing this. What is going on with the old Citgo? Again, shameful and looks atrocious. Until the city gets serious about filling up all these closed up store fronts with actual useful businesses, we have no choice but to take our money out of town. How many tacos, hot dogs, hamburgers etc. can one consume? As for some of the current restaurants that do good business, how do they repay the patronage of our community, when was the last time they have updated their properties and where is their pride in our community? The general merchandise shops are like searching through second hand stores that are not kept organized. Again, other cities can accomplish this, Blue Island needs to make this their main goal if they intend to survive.

Those in power are much to busy as the Coalition/Progressive/Rita Party who created the problems you describe; Celebrate and Uphold with Awards the Epic Failure Blue Islanders All See and have Endured.
Really There is "No Thing" to Celebrate.
