Madre Di Dios! Hoya Vato how was Vargas supposed to stop the closing? It was a corporate decision...not his. He holds no seat on the corporate board of Jewel nor is a majority shareholder. This was a company dictum from the head honchos. So please explain to me how he was going to prevent, much less stop Jewel from leaving? Please give us the benefit of your magnificent business acumen how he could have stopped it? Oh and by the way...what business degree do you hold? You don't have one you say? But you still come here like a pendeho & shoot your mouth off like a Donald Trump?

How Ya doing in Anderson Indiana? Do you have a Alderman as Vargas? Are you in a lock up near by? Are you the victim of a Plea Bargain? Or did you actually do the crime?

My God! Are you as dumb as you sound or are you just Internet naive? Just because my i.d. says Anderson, Ind. or the planet Romulus does not mean I live or work there. I bounce my signal through several Proxy sites. I could be your next door neighbor or the geek kid down the street hacking your email. Get some education and come back here when you know what you are talking about.

On Thursday, November 21st, Mayor Domingo Vargas officially opened three streets that underwent major reconstruction; Grunewald Street, Orchard Street and Collins Street, from Western Avenue to Greenwood Avenue. The ribbon cutting event Took place at the corner of Western Avenue and Orchard Street
City Officials in attendance included Mayor Vargas, City Clerk Randy Heuser, City Treasurer Carmine Bilotto, Aldermen Candace Carr and Jan Ostling (along with her granson, Mason). Tom Nagle with Robinson Engineering, Frank Berrini, Public Works Superintendent and Mark Miller, Special Projects were also in attendance.

Mayor Vargas has forgot about his Seventh ward. Nothing has changed. He votes to put money in other parts of Blue Island, and ignores the real problems. The real cost of paying off political debt.

Most of Gruenwald, Collins, and Orchard Streets and sidewalks remain pothole heaven as they have been for years; this project stopped long before reaching Highland Ave. drive through and see for yourself. Where are the leaf vacs?

I am surprised that anyone could or wold expect the new mayor to be able to do anything substantive after being on city council for so long doing very little .... Now taking orders from the Dems as they complete the destruction of our town.

Building his résumé. Forwarding his career. Making liaisons with politicians. Supporting the Hispanic agenda. Promoting and supplying friends and alliances with city jobs. I say that he's done quite a bit.

Were hoping Mayor Vargas lives up to his political promise. He said he had a company that was interested in opening up the Jewel Grocery store.

The only promise that your Mayor Vargas is keeping is the one that he made to the Illinois Democratic machine... Creating jobs for all of their flunkie supporters!

Stefanelli's
Pablo's
Richie's Too
Citgo
Hollywood
Feel free to add to this sad list.
Blue Island needs a new vision and soon.
Maybe start with the south west corner of 127th and Western,
this should be prime commercial property that seems to be wasting away especially the boarded up nursing home. This area could be used for major new developement, loose the billboard, and old buildings and rebuild with modern storefronts and perhaps a decent major chain. Perhaps the rest of Western Ave would start looking more appealing to
other major tax base companies.

The nursing home is a bad location for traffic. I would change it to residemtial or it needs to be a business that doesn't rely on traffic. Richies Too closed I heard due to the building owner needing to make major repairs to business ceilings etc and limited parking hurts there too. Too bad Citgo couldn't rebuild a larger building like Thortons & add more pumps.

Unfortunately, Blue Island's Demographics aren't what major national chains look for, unless its fast food. The Jewel property could be something great but in order to bring a national retail chain the city would have to provide some HUGE tax incentives and let's remember, Jewel won't sell to anyone looking to put a grocer here so that is completely out of the question.
