"You don't get a second chance to make a first impression"

Driving through "historic Blue Island" down Western is like entering a land that time forgot ...or just neglected.

How about some simple ideas,,,

Clean the vacant store front windows
- Clean up the signage
- Repaint the cross-walks
- Repaint the parking areas
- Repaint the curbs
- Clean the sidewalks
- Set-up "pop up Art" displays in vacant store fronts
- Put some COLORFUL plants in the planters
- Replace the broken glass in the old Klines building - take down the boards!
- Put up historical pictures in the storefronts
- make the building owners take care of their property - clean, paint, etc
- Take note of what surrounding communities are doing to develop their communities and attract new business
- Have historic walking tours
- Schedule more events around the Cal-Sag park !tw can we start using the full name of the channel ...Cal-Sag sounds so "ghetto"
- Capitalize on Blue Island's rich TRAIN history ...pictures in windows or along Western Ave ......Train lectures at the Train Station ...at one time there was discussion of bringing an antique train into the park ...
- Let's have a "walk-of fame" for all the celebs that have lived here ...did you know the model for Columbia Pictures (the one holding the torch) was from Blue Island? Why don't we have a statue? People come to see that stuff!

These aren't difficult things ...not very costly ... And can help improve (not fix) the image of our fair city's downtown district and attract new investors.

Hopefully the Vargas administration will reach out to the community for these and other ideas and turn them into REALITY!

How about forming a blue ribbon panel?
A fact

Randy has not paid property taxes in over three years
on his Blue Island nursing home. Now the city will purchase it for a dollar and demo that eye sore.
People voted this guy in office, he can't manage his personal finances, or maintain what he owns but make him our city clerk.

Hey Build BI2, I love your ideas. How can we cultivate interest amongst our residents towards demanding the change we want to see via our own tangible actions? It appears we are generally asleep in Blue Island. I'm confident our government will comply once our community awakens.

let's start an program, leave marked police cars at the few stores we have left.
Crestwood and Orland have done this for years,it's a shame that no cop was even near the gas station when this occurred.
The guy's were still loading their squads at the p.d and getting coffee at D&D GREAT POLICE WORK FELLAS

. Thx.Maybe we get The Forum Newspaper (Sandy May -they sponsor the Cavalcade of Pride) engaged to solicit interested people in town, we form a team and appear before the "new" city council and request their support (perhaps Candi Carr can champion this)- some tangible things this group can be done ...others involving property maintenance will require city pressure ... But we could get other groups involved (civic orgs or businesses with a social commitment)...schools... Etc. To help clean up and revitalize gateway to our city. I'm sure rep rita would get the state to do the street marking and crosswalk painting. Unfortunately most people in town will wait for others to start the process.

The Forestry Board needs to add the 119th St. burm to their to do list for this year.
It definately appeared forgotten, neglected, untended, and off their radar screen last year.

When will action be taken to make this entrance to Blue Island more attractive?

Once an area becomes populated by people who are on welfare the area is done. Look at Roseland. State street, what a great place to shop when I was a kid. Now, I wouldn't go there on a bet. This is what BI will look like in ten years. It's time to move, you idiots.

Its over because of people like you. Peloquin asskissers who instead of holding him accountable for his actions or in our case his "inactions" chose to move out of town and just come back to drink and golf for free.

Seems like we got off point here gents!

I vote we put Candace Carr in charge of a blue ribbon commission to push for the needed resources to kick-off a "Revitalize Blue Island" campaign. As a business owner, longtime resident and now alderman Candace "Spend $5 per day", "Shop Blue Island First" gets it and understands the importance of our business District.

Perhaps the city can tap into Rita's coffers to get some funding!

Please begin immediately by making all of the untended/forgotten gateways into Blue Island more attractive. Candace and Mike can call on the forestry board and pitch in with the team.
