So we will have people with little experience transporting patience, in a 14 year old Ambulance, how safe is that

Actually, I believe they have to go through a State Certified Inspection and I really don't think the State will let it be put in operation if anything is wrong. Of course even if it saved your life or a family members, you would still bitch.

No what you will have is people who are very experienced with dealing with our residents, versus the latest new-hires from a private ambulance who will be gone soon as they move on or get hired on a fire department that provides their own EMS service...oh wait, like Midlothian does.

The additional "box" ambulance was purchased from another department that has a capital replacement program in place - which I expect Midlothian to put into place once finances fall into line - and they retired the ambulance with little if any problems. Yes, it is used/older but it will join the current two other ambulances that work just fine as well and will be a great start to the EMS program in Midlothian.

Additionally, a majority of the firefighters have EMS transport experience already and in some cases, far more than the average private ambulance personnel sent into town to serve the residents.

But hey, go ahead an reply anyway cause you are going to whether my point was made or not. Oh and still in spite of your protests, the MFD will continue to provide Fire-Based EMS not only cause it is the right thing to do, but also because it is the fiscally prudent thing to do - like many other towns are switching to if they haven't already provided it in the past.

Can anyone explain to me why Midlothian needs a full time fire department. Midlothian runs hardly any fires and it's call volume is very low. How can Posen who runs almost the same amount of calls and Crestwood who runs almost DOUBLE the calls of Midlothian do it with part time personnel and Midlothian has to have a full time staff? It just doesn't seem fiscally responsible to me.

I guess they will need to have patience while transporting "patients".
