That's a good thing finally. Sounds like the days of a high Village contract with a company whose closest Ambulance was in Dolton are over with. Other than the high contracts, also billing the Patient for services. Looks like this town is finally going in the right direction again.

First off the closest ambulance always wasn't in Dolton sometimes they were sitting in our town also when there is a call and then another call and another call, you must expect delays. How do you think the fire department is going to handle 3 or 4 calls they to will have delays.

This may be a step in the right direction and it may not. With the previous arrangement there were a lot of personnel on the scene of emergencies and the MFD personnel could break free if needed to respond to another emergency call. Believe it or not the people who implemented the other system wete not stupid. The pay scale for a firefightet/paramedic is considerably higher than that of a ff/EMT. Check out the salary of Oak Forest personnel. This is what you will be paying soon. Time will tell if this is good for Midlothian. The higher salaries will also result in much higher pensions and the cost of those pensions is the responsibility of the taxpayers. Again there are positves and negatives to both systems and the future will be very interesting.

this can be seen as a positive or a negative the reason most small townships contract outside is because it lowers there overhead which can leave them money for other things but if it can bring a faster reponse time maybe it will be better for the town

It may have not been "always" but in my opinion once is enough, especially when a life depends on it. And no, when there are calls one right after another, you don't expect delays, that's crazy. They sign agreements with other towns to help out. If they are out helping someone and another call comes in, they won't just sit in a que waiting for that call to finish up, they will send another town in to help. Do you have any India how long one call can last? I'm having a heart attack and you think they are going to wait 30-45 min before they send help?

this can also cost more in workmans comp claims and injuires. Taking a patient to the er takes at least an hour. How many ambulances will be necessary? what is the cost of maintenace and insurance on these vehicles? Will there be overtime costs involved? This sounds like a can of worms to me

I've had MFD come to my house for a 84 yr. heart patient that fell and they said its not an emer. and not to call 911 and would not help pick him up and other times Bud was there faster than the F.D.

Ok so when are ambulance is on available, and are squad is in Harvey for fire we are Limited on other towns that can resond, like Robins, Markham, Crestwood and a few others that use private ambulances that they keep for only their towns they are contracted to, if Posen is unavailable and you live in the east side of town your best bet is call a cab

I just heard Crestwood is going with their own paramedics also starting next month, So would this help us out?

I forgot to mention my neighbor said Crestwood is twice as busy as Midlothian would they then be able to help us if they are that much busier than we are? Just asking.

For those who are worried about Midlo being too busy to handle this...one need only look at the last ### of Years that they have provided the current, "BLS show up and assist Bud's ambulance", operation.

To date, there has not been an EMS call where they weren't able to send a crew to the scene to assist Buds...squad in Harvey or elsewhere.

Sure, multiple calls may tax the system and multiple EMS calls will require reaching out to neighbors - much like the rest of the southland does each and every day.

So, if they have always been able to show up with the Midlothian Ambulance to assist...one could suppose they will be able to transport now instead of just handing over patient care to Buds.

Hmmm for the past 30-40-50 years Midlothian paid Daley's (Bud's)How much money? to transport the residents of Midlothian. Bud's in return charged the residents How much money for the transport? Seems to me that the Village built a multi million dollar company with residents (taxpayers money) I agree with the entire Village Boards recent decision, let our firemen that are already being paid transport, they already respond to medical calls and keep the money in the Village. It only took 40 years to decide!

We had a fire in town a few days ago, we only had one fire truck show up, everything else just sat in the firehouse, along with a fire truck from Country Club Hills, its not a good idea for the fire department to take over all the ambulance calls, when they can't even staff our own fire department, other towns that responded, Crestwood, Posen, Alsip, Hazel Crest and a few others,
