Lindenhurst Crime Wave, Are you being affected?

Jul 9, 2008 Full story: 61
Lindenhurst Gazette
Since school has let out in Lindenhurst a large number of petty crimes have been reported ranging from mischief to vandalism.

Bicycles have been stolen out of sheds and garages, gas has been siphoned out of gas tanks, Barbecues have gone missing, vehicles have been vandalized as well as property being vandalized and a lot of petty crimes being committed. It's certainly a lot wilder this year than it has been in the past when school lets out. Some have noticed an increase in teen drinking and drug use and are wondering when the Village and Police are going to beef up patrols.

One family South of Montauk has had to call the Police several times over the past few weeks due to some very wild teens. One man also South of Montauk also had his fence kicked in while another had her lights stolen off of her fence.

It's time to take a stand. Call the Police for any incident and let the village officials know we want more patrols in our neighborhoods. Ask the Village to have a Night-Out-Against Crime and Invite SCPD to Speak and Listen to our complaints. Full Story

I am told that our lindy precinct is ny state precinct. i would like to know what we need to do to get our own village police. i think that is the only way to make our streets safe again and our neighborhood would be so great we would be the envy to other towns and if they follow....wow, what a great place to live. now excuse me while i follow the yellow brick road to a place called oz...lol

No wonder why the parents in Lindy are sending their kids to Catholic schools at an increasing clip every year!

Hold On before we go and hire our Own Police Force, think about this. To be competitive with the salaries and benefits, we would need to pay our officers a competitive salary which is about 120K per year. Then there is the insurance needs, vehicles, ect. So unless you want to start paying Nassau County type taxes, I think a neighborhood watch might be a better idea.

Rumor has it that a certain Catholic School in West Islip has an ever increasing Heroin Problem among Seniors.

SCPD has been patrolling Lindy for the 25+ years I've been here.
Maybe they should do the job they are paid for instead of hanging out in parking lots and firehouses.

According to my sources, SCPD has 1.5 patrol cars allocated to this area.

Your statement agrees with one of my observations.

But are they patrolling or parked somewhere?

Interesting, we here in West Islip also only have 1.5 patrol cars - sometimes we have NO coverage. Lindenhurst at least has the village's code enforcement.

This is why the County Police sucks. Its time to reconsider their presence in incorporated villages. Make the villages have their own PD so the that either County PD can concentrate on the unincorporated communities, or even better disband the County PD and go back to Township PDs.

BTW: its not just St Johns, I graduated from WIHS in 2006 and we also had a pretty significant drug problem as well. Its sad really, the same kids would get caught over and over and the next day or the next week they would be right back dealing drugs again. It really says alot about our "justice system" and how it deals with minors.

Well for one thing, I can keep reporting as I do and I can encourage readers to Call The Village Hall and complain about specific problems. If you live here you have every right to complain. Our Mayor and Board Members live here too and they want a clean village just as much as we do, only they can not possible know every thing that is going on.

Lindehurst sucks !! I lived there for over 25 years! They do have to many people renting apartmets/houses packing n as many families to one space. Code enforcers dont do anything. I know for a fact that on 40th street there are 3 cops families living in one area and the one cop has a bunch of step kids(sons) and they are criminals...drug dealers....thats why we couldnt wait to get out! the mother was a W&%re and would sit in her car rolling joints w/ her mother !! AND since that have been so many illegal immigrants that they school I have heard that the high school 10 -15 yrs ago had to install metal detectors....is that true> that town has gone to the crapper.....all the "new" people shot it to hell!!!!!

My sons car was broken into and all they did was rip the covers off his college books. What nonsense all new books can't be resold back to the college some of the engineering texts were over 150. each. Sooo stupid!

Village hall is a joke!! I have a absent t landlord across the street from me. OVER 20yrs complaining and they do nothing! He is paying someone off! He owns 10houses in Lindenhurst and his own house has three apartments. He doesn't take care of the property, he makes the renters do it. Sooo the lawn gets mowed when we complain! Drugs dealing, noise, broken falling down fences, cats they leave behind when the tenants leave, barking dogs, oohhh and the 20 yrs of crying baby, with every new family! Then the kids playing on the front lawn for 20yrs broken sprinkler heads, dent in my car doors, harassement from the low life trash, if you say anything about the balls and kids leaning on your cars! Cops called! CALL the village, this man is paying them OFF! Next is Newsday or help me Howard!!! I have a report in to them six months ago and again NOTHING! Highranch two families up and one in the apt.. Single family home! I checked up and they said they gave it to the fire marshal I'm sure he is getting paid off!

I have lived here for 20 years and have sent my kids to the public schools. I have enjoyed living here and have never had any problems.
