no signs that the road ends? get real!!!!! go down to the bluff at night and check it out. you have to be blind or extremly high or suicidal if you just drive right on ahead the bluff is lit up like crazy at night you can even see it a mile out from the water. their is more to this story than we know obviosly i feel bad it is so sad but in no way was it a accident. also the person that drove in last summer was trying to commit suicide. I love how newsday dramatizes the story to make it look like its the towns fault. Give me a break.

I know its tough but don't respond to these idiots...they don't know Ryan or Rob and they're clearly looking for a reaction to their idiotic comments. Accident or no accident, drunk or not, it's still terrible..Ryan was a great guy and he'll be missed.....my thoughts go out to all his family and friends.

Many residents have asked the Town of Smithtown to put speed bumps on Old Dock Road because of the speeding and racing problem. Maybe now they will.

Firstly, it is a tragic accident.
Secondly, at the light at the cross of St Johnland Road and Old Dock Road there is a "No Outlet" sign and a "Dead End" sign at the ramp.
Thirdly, the car was driving down Old Dock Road at about 2:30 am going 60 MPH in a residential neighborhood.
Fourthly, the comment about the "Old Dock Inn"..it is a family restaurant that closes about 10 pm on Friday nights, so no go on that one.
Lastly, the dredgers were on their boats and from my understanding called in the "car in the air" going at a "very high speed"
Yes, it is sad and my thoughts are with the families, but come on...2:30 am and going at a speed so fast that the car was in the air? Very, very sad and hopefully other young folks out there take note of this tragic accident.

When it is your brother or son ABC perhaps you won't be so flippant about a "tragic accident"- your information is completely wrong and you should keep your mouth shut. Once again, when it is two people taken from your life, then you get to have an opinion.

RIP Ryan, Come home Robert

Get off the page if you don't like it. It never ceases to amaze me how the brokenhearted, grieving friends and family members manage to find the time to read comments on a Newsday forum. Don't you have better things to do right now, like comforting the families of the 'victims'?

Everyone grieves in their own way. If you don't know who any of the people are that were involved, then find something better to do with your time.

OK the stupid ass jokes about kp being white trash have to end...if anyone of you have ever been down to the bluff you really really need to be crazy to not see the water....and the dredgers on the boats called in a car in the air, to gain air off the boat ramp you HAVE TO BE GOING TOO FAST...it's a shame to lose a life and my heart & prayers go out to the family

To all the people that are trashing Ryan & Rob.. you don't know the circumstances whatsoever behind the accident... they weren't drinking at the dock at all. They were on their way back home and obviously took a wrong turn not realizing they were going down this type of road (Maybe there should be some signs or barriers up especially since there are no lights on the road). And even if the reports come back that there was alcohol in their systems, that does not make them bad people. How many people drive while intoxicated all the time? It was simply an accident. Also, if the call was put in at 350 why didn't anything get recovered until 735? Something should have been done earlier than that. Rob- I'm praying for a miracle for you, you were able to get out of the car and I know you were strong enough to try and swim to shore... I love you both and all my thoughts go out to both of your families.
There are lights on that road...and the Dept's were ther at 4 when it was called out..the body wasnt in the car thats why the car wasn't pulled out till 735...and if u are from kp you would know that at that spot where the docks are you can't go into the water u cant swim across, the tides are too strong...please dont pick on the people who awoke at 4am just to dive into freezing cold water to rescue someone, they did everything possible
