What can you say about a village whose big business is the OLPH, the Mayor's funeral home and a CVS? I have personally been trying to get a traffic light on a dangerous intersection for the last two years with little or no response from the actual village government...I have finally turned to the town and state to try to get something done about this business. The entire village government and school system are filled with lackeys and corrupt with family members associated with the Brennan family and its businesses...the mayor may not want this job anymore but that does not mean you quit on the citizens just so that the hucksters that you surround yourself with get whatever they want. The village has been run by working-class Republicans for years, increasing taxes all along the way but not providing better services. Fireman's Park, the glorified goose toilet bowl, has seen much better days and the one relatively new addition to the park (the 9/11 memorial) is completely depressing and closed off to the citizens half of the time. Lindenhurst's main street, S Wellwood has so much potential but has remained squalid for really two decades with empty and dilapidated store fronts. It shows a complete lack of vision on the Chamber of Commerce's part that the only new businesses to survive the last few years have been chain franchises, such as 7-11 and Subway or big banks. With the exception of The Cup and a couple of older business, Lindy's, Ellen Cleaners, Linden Florist, Patsys and Black Forest Bakery, Lindenhurst desperately needs new blood and energy, something to bring life into the main street. The village lacks the leadership and drive to encourage people to come and explore. Anyone that passes through Lindenhurst on even a weekend night realizes that the place is a ghost town, yet for some reason all the parking spaces are full?! Weird. Lindenhurst school district has some of the most mediocre administrators, teachers and students on Long Island, but the school taxes compete with more impressive school districts on the north shore. Too much energy within the school administration is placed on sports, non-academic extracurricular activities and test prep, and not enough on day to day resources for actually teaching students. Like many suburban schools, Lindenhurst suffers from teaching for the test and actually produces students that do not have essential knowledge necessary to function on a collegiate level...enough of this...Lindenhurst was once a great place to live in, but I feel that, like many suburban towns, the old guard -lacking the knowledge and drive-doesn't trust the outsider with running the show...if you have the same people, family and friends running the same village you are bound to fall to corruption and nepotism and Lindenhurst is a primary example...You know you have problems when the village population has exploded and your library has actually shrunk in size.

that is only hyperbole...no one is actually comparing Lindenhurst to Detroit or Baltimore...those of us that have lived in Lindenhurst, remember when it was actually a pleasant working class town, though I will say that those of you who are leaving the Northeast for the South fail to realize that, yes, you are getting a bargain, tax-wise, however you do lose many of the essential services that those states don't provide.

3 families were displaced and now homeless due to the fire on 29 hoffman av last week. How anyone in the right mind would rent from the bum who owns that corner property. We all know who you are. Real great guy you are. You should get the landlord of the year award from the greatest village on long island. This bum has got some connection here i tell you. Come one come all ...
