Delegate Dan needs to spend his time doing other things. His concepts of "body-snatching" and using this money else where are crazy. This money is set aside for trauma care.

If there are less helicopters, that means a longer ETA from the hangar to the scene...which means the patient could have been seen at a trauma center quicker under the current system than under this new idea of a system.

All these people care about is money! How many lives will be lost because of canges to the system? Maybe if we cut these lawmaker's salaries, we could put that money into another program...hah, that will never happen! So then, why should they take the money out of this system for another?

The real question here is where did all that money we Marylanders having been paying each year ($13 per car registration) went. It was supposed to go to the operation and future replacement of the Helicopters. Legislature squandered it. Someone needs to do an audit on the money trail.

The expert panel, which has no "dog in this fight" (they're largely from other states) was convened by MIEMSS. It found that MD can do just as well or better in terms of patient care with fewer helicopters. This is not about money versus lives. It's about creating the best overall system for our state. I'm glad legislators are looking into this. That's their job.

That money from the car registration actually goes mostly to the annual costs of running such an operation.

The legislators...look into their pasts. Mr. Astle had (and probably still does) a financial interest in the private medevacs (which is what he is calling for). Mr. Morhaim is an ER physician at a Level 2 trauma center which does not receive patients via helicopter, so does he understand the benefit of aviation in transporting patients? Probably not.

To most of these legislators, it really is about the dollar. Better with fewer helicopters? How would that be better? Longer transport time by air to a hospital is what comes to my mind. Our system is working, it is the best in the country and most importantly the safety record speaks for itself. We have the strongest system in the world.

Who said anything about a helicopter in every county? Come on now, that's not possible! We need to keep our current system, and make a few small changes.
