Often times the graffiti looks no worse than the ugly mural in downtown livermore, in fact. I'd much rather view the beautiful artwork of a talented tagger than that not-so pretty mural.

More definitions:
Graffiti: Form of visual communication, usually illegal, involving the unauthorized marking of public space by an individual or group. Technically the term applies to designs scratched through a layer of paint or plaster, but its meaning has been extended to other markings. Graffiti is widely considered a form of antisocial behaviour performed in order to gain attention or simply for thrills.
Vadalism: Willful or malicious destruction of public or private property.
1,900 years ago in Pompeii, Italy, everybody was doing it. They wrote on the exteriors of houses up and down the street, in bath houses and in kitchens. Everything was fair game. So what has changed?

thanx Mike, the point of the picture was to show the talent, not if it's right or wrong to tag, many of these taggers could use their skills in a more productive way, working perhaps, never the less, they have more artistic talent, than i have.
Yes, but it is their art teacher in school who should encourage them to go another way, not you or the public for doing tags like this. You encourage them to do this to property. I don't want to see this when I am walking my dog..I like nature, and the less of humans I see their the better.

Real graffiti artists don't just go out and hit random walls and cars, it's not about that. If you see any gang related, x4 bull, that's not true graffiti. Graffiti is meant to have a purpose, and it almost always shows the expression of the person doing it. Good graffiti artists don't do graffiti to get recognized, they do it for the freedom of expression. And sure, it can be seen as just selfless vandalism, but graffiti artists do what they do and will continue to do it, and they accept their consequences regardless. The world is my canvas, and I won't let some prick who thinks he runs the town tell me otherwise.

Oh and one last thing: If someone sees graffiti as being related to stealing a car, you need to open your eyes. We don't go out destroying the city, a lot of us have some sense and put it under bridges where no one even goes. Stealing a car is on a completely different level. When is the last time you saw a piece of graffiti and said, "Wait, oh shit! This graffiti impacts me SO MUCH that I have no way to get to work!" No graffiti artist goes out and destroys YOUR personal property so why should YOU care? Graffiti isn't really as destructive as people make it out to be.$40,000 in fines..you have to be kidding me. This is our city too, why would we destroy what is ours?

Ankir, enjoy your wasted life you selfish, immature, cocky piece of sh1t. The world is your canvas? Your world is a toilet and your attitude is the sh1t clogging it up. I wish I would catch you spraying your crap on a wall. There would be no fine.

'Livermore Person', you are the reason why there are criminals out in the world. Close-minded people like you, that cross their t's and dot their i's, and don't miss a church Sunday, think they can go push their thoughts down others throats without the common decency to see the other persons point of view. You are a bigot. Oh, and please look up the meaning of 'immature' in a dictionary before you go name-calling, hypocrite.

I cause criminals? People like me cause criminals? Please explain, you little punk bastard (more name calling, sh1thead). I would like to know how agreeing with a law that spray painting crap on property other than your own is illegal makes me contribute toward juvenile delinquency and the creation of other criminals. You are the type of person who thinks that she is entitled to do whatever she wants because she thinks it is okay and it is cool and that cops are junk jerks enforcing stupid laws.(Get ready for more name calling.) You are a moron with no sense, common or otherwise. I ask you to do one of two things:

1: Answer my question and explain how people who agree that crime is bad cause criminals and juvenile delinquents, right there from your parent's home computer and try to make an educated post.

2: Have you parents or some other legal guardian come on down to the First Street Alehouse tonight, between 6:00 and 6:15 , sit down and explain your defense of criminal behavior in person.

I don't expect option one will be an educated response, just some spewing of "you are 'The Man' just holding kids down from expressing themselves" type bullsh1t.

I certainly don't expect option number two from you as you are surely another keyboard-as-a-shield type poster on Topix. Good day, ma'am.

you're the reason they don't stick their heads out of their upper middle class "bubble." Because everytime they do, some little piss ant who can't express himself without an obsurd amount of vulgar language comes along with a bone to pick with the world. Shut up and grow up.
