This is maybe the third such attempt in a decade. This town will never learn from past mistakes or reality.

They could stage reenactments of drunken knife fights on the main street and then allow paying tourists to arrest them and throw them in the clink.

I would be interested in seeing a history of this structure. It must have been a place of untold misery, esp. in mid-Summer and mid-Winter. Did convicts actually serve sentences there, or was it just a "lock-up", for use until County deputies could transport them somewhere else?

Me thinks it was a temp lock-up. I sits next to that overstated, ostentatious Scottsville police HQ, where the wheels of justice turn...sometimes.

New slogan for Scottsville tourism: "Scottsville...a little bit of Charlottesville with some Columbia thrown in!"

I think the downtown is at around 40% vacancy in businesses. Here We Go Again is spot on: businesses change like underwear. But there is a candy shop trying to open next to the Dollar Store...and for conceptual continuity, there is a dentist's office a few doors down from the candy shop!

A walk through Scottsville will tell you that the dentist in Scottsville must be lonelier than the old Maytag Man! The only choppers I see are parked in front of the restaurants.

For your information the Dentist is a wonderful asset to Scottsville and much needed! Scottsville does not have to be..."a little bit of Charlottesville with some Columbia thrown in". Scottsville needs to allow businesses like a CVS Pharmacy, Clothing stores, and businesses that create and pay taxes. As for history and tourism, why not restore the old canal that runs beside the James River where the boat used to unload goods at Scottsville. Restoring the old jail is good, but not enough to make people drive for miles to see it.

Not sure I know where that building is located. Hope it's large enough for a Starbucks!

The Visitors Center will be open sometime in June - and it's well needed. No one is expecting that sightseers will travel to see it, but if they are happening by, it's a fairly visible space, with public parking next door, and it was available. And needed some cleaning up! We also have a gorgeous new tavern and a new brewery opening this summer. Those serious people investing in them, fully expect to see them become success stories. I daresay that in a small town, the change in business might me more noticeable than in other areas, but we have had our share of long-term successful businesses as well. I think we are due for a few again that will stick around. As for the derogatory comments about the appearance of some of our residents, perhaps that's what YOU notice - but what you might not notice or realize is the significant numbers of artists, musicians, rich people, and just plain educated, intelligent, interesting, quiet people who have the sense not to pay Cville real estate prices, get land as well as a great house, and enjoy the country quiet of Southern Albemarle county, and don't mind a short drive to their office as a trade-off. Scottsville surprised me - and that's why I chose to settle here.

If the Ace Kivlin you are referring to was from Philadelphia and a member of the Warlocks, he is my Dads brother. Thank you for keeping his name alive.
