Many would agree that acts of violence should be cause to ask an elected official to resign her or his office, or to give good reasons why not.
In this light, it seems that Anyone demanding resignation or removal of Supervisor Dumler (D-Albemarle) must ALSO DEMAND removal or resignation of DELEGATE FARISS (R-Albemarle) for the same reasons: gender violence!
The Daily Progress reported in Octobe...r 2011, during the campaign that Mr Fariss won:
http://www.dailyprogress.com/news/article_38e ...
Wednesday, October 26, 2011.
(quote)
Republican candidate Matt Fariss of Rustburg was named in an emergency protective order in 2002 that required him to stay away from a Lynchburg woman. Fariss campaign manager said Wednesday that Fariss was not available for comment....
Fariss, who has refused to talk to The News & Advance of Lynchburg about any of his legal issues, is getting financial support from state Republican Party officials for his campaign, which is making heavy use of mailed brochures. Some of them describe his family values.
A Lynchburg police officer asked a city magistrate to issue an emergency protective order on March 9, 2002, that required Fariss to stay away from a Lynchburg woman.
The officer request said the woman stated to me that Fariss broke through her back door to gain entry into her house when she told him to leave. History of violence.
(unquote)
The Police report notes 'History of violence'.
If anyone has not demanded the resignation or removal of Honorable Mr Fariss - for history of violence - one wonders about motivations in demanding resignation or removal of Honorable Mr Dumler - for history of violence
We support requesting any elected official who has committed violence - against humans or against animals - to resign from those duties.
In Southern Albemarle County that would include Honorable Mr Dumler and Honorable Mr Fariss.
Did Mr. Fariss plead guilty to a crime? You only mention a protective order.

You all that keep screaming RAPE do not get it. The man was not charged with rape. The release stated an allegation of anal sex. Let's walk through a scenario, and this is simply that - a scenario: Dumler and the victim go out and have some drinks. One or both of them get pretty inebriated. They go somewhere quiet and engage in consensual sex. The details of the acts do not matter. A few things can happen next:
1. Dumler, with that annoying smirk on his face, asks for a little back door action. The victim agrees. Deed done. The next morning, her rear hurts, she realized WHO she did it with and was regretful.
2. Dumler, with that annoying smirk on his face, initiates anal sex without asking (huge no-no in hook-up etiquette), after consent was given for regular sex.
3. He missed. She's ****.
The next question that applies to ALL of this - did she blow (orally copulate, for you scholars out there) him at any point? If so, she is just as guilty of sodomy as Dumler....
Looking forward to your feedback!
I didn't see anyone "screaming rape". Your "hook up etiquette" is the problem.

Dude I agree that the local Democratic party should not be held responsible for Mr. Dumler's actions - but they should be held responsible for their own. Many people are concerned that by their very silence, they are condoning Mr. Dumler's actions, which is unconscionable. The local Democratic party needs to immediately require his resignation - and do not allow yourself to be fooled: they can make him resign if they really want to. This party is losing credibility - and donors - as each day passes that they do not remove this person from his elected office and his party affiliation.
I'm not disagreeing with any of that, what I am stating is it's becoming an issue that people are generalizing and politicizing. He's a s-c-u-m-b-a-g plan and simple, neither party can claim they're free from them, nor should either party be held responsible to or be generalized by them. I agree that the local democrats should encourage him to step down, not unlike national republicans distanced themselves from Akin.

Of course Dumler should resign- he committed a crime. But when you think back I guess the republicans can't do any crimes- look at who the republicans put up to run for President- Newt Gingrich who had already been ousted from his position by the ethics committee- he was having affairs behind his wife's back.
Then they put up others to run for republicans that have no shame- Mitt Romney a draft dodger and protester against his own Country but then plays the part of a being a bully.
And then yes the admirable Sarah Palin who talked about family values but couldnt keep her own family in check!!!
I think it might be a good idea to throw everybody out of government- republicans and democrats!!! We would be better off I think.
Helen, stay on topic. This is about an individual, a specific individual, who is no longer respected or wanted on the Board. He needs to go. Plain and simple.

You know, if he "missed" as some have said, I don't think he is qualified to be a supervisor anyway. He either can't be bothered to know where things are supposed to go, or is too careless to make sure they do. Either way he is derelict in his function as a human being in society.

Thank you for proving us right in every triger pull! If you ever feel like it, show up to the local VFW and tell some of those good ol boys what you have to say...I dare you!

I doubt that he missed. He's probably a bi-sexual and just did what he does with the boys.

Here is my feedback. You are trying to justify Dumler's actions when the FACT is HE CONFESSED AND WAS CONVICTED OF SEXUAL BATTERY. Period. How about he CONFESSED to sexual battery and is now a convicted sexual batterer. He should have stepped down immediately, but sociopaths don't typically behave as "normal" people expect them to behave because they are SOCIOPATHS. This is all part of his sickness. He is enjoying the attention. Just remember HE CONFESSED TO SEXUAL BATTERY and regardless of the smoke and mirrors Dumler and his pathetic supporters are using in an attempt to protect him, he remains A CONVICTED SEXUAL BATTERER. This will not go away or die down until Dumler steps down from the Board.

What he did or didn't do is immaterial at this point. We'll never know if he overstepped or if a disgruntled lover is setting him up. Either way it's a situation that he got into himself. He can't be effective. He should leave. I would love to turn on the news and not hear about Dumler for a change.

I think most people agree with the underlying concept of fairness, that persons committing crimes should be treated the same way regardless of political affiliation; however, there is a remarkable difference between someone obtaining an EPO against you, vs. being charged with and subsequently pleading guilty to, a sex crime. Obtaining an EPO is ridiculously simple in our system. You need to merely convince a magistrate that an EPO is warranted under the circumstances (not hard to do); evidence of violence helps but is not a prerequisite at all. A broken door is good, but if there is "more to the story" (always!) that is probably going to come out when you seek a permanent paper.

The REAL test is whether or not a judge will issue a permanent restraining order in the next three days; probably most EPOs are never converted.(Either the victim never tries to get one; or tries and the judge doesn't agree.)

Wiki-lawyers please jump in if you disagree.
