Full story: News on 6 Tulsa

Three Oklahoma law enforcement officers who died in on-duty traffic accidents last year will be included on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, but a fourth man won't. David Lippe of the Oklahoma Law Enforcement Memorial says Chickasaw Lighthorse officer Robert P. Flickinger has been excluded because the memorial concluded ...

I would imagine that the majority of those killed were at least partially at fault at some point, given the way police drive, so this may be an example of elitism even inside police ranks.

Take another toke of meth.......you are right though. Cops are a pain in the butt to drug dealers, thieves, robbers, burglars, child molestors, and other assorted criminals. So you take care when your door gets kicked in on the search warrant that will no doubt get served at your house.........

This type of problem has been encountered before. This officer will get included in the memorial before it's all over. Officers are killed every year in traffic collisions, which is the most dangerous hazard that is faced. As with law enforcement personel, more citizens are killed in traffic collisions that all crimes combined. To the family of this officer, the memorial will honor your loved one......keep the faith the right thing will be done.

This is a memorial to people who have no regard to traffic laws, and end up getting killed (and sometimes killing other people).
I know people worship cops and think they can do no wrong, but when they suffer as a result of ignoring traffic laws they deserve our understanding, not our praise.

If the police sniper who got drunk at the TPD picnic and destroyed his city vehilcle knocking over a phone pole had died, he would be on the list.
He survived, and got a 2-week suspension instead of going to prison like anyone else would have.
Cops are a very strange, but privileged subculture.

This is a memorial for Officers who have been killed or died while on duty. The officer in question died in a car accident, that may or may not have been his fault.

I am not sure how I feel about this decision. I believe we should have a memorial for Officers whom have been killed in the line of duty. I wonder, was this officer on his way to a call?
Again, I am not sure how I feel about this decision.

Now that is a deep thought! What would your thoughts be if you knew that this officer was responding to your home, because some thug was breaking in where you and your family were? That this officer was killed because he was trying to do his job? Or is this a case where you just want to voice your disgust at the police because your own driver's record reflects your distain for the law? Until you have all of the facts of a particular incident, you might want to temper your opinion and comments.

These people drive worse than we do, why give them a special memorial, or is this some sort of Darwin Award?

The National Police Memorial is for officers who are killed in the line of duty. Line of duty deaths include many occurrences, including gunfire, stabbing, having heart attacks while preforming law enforcement duties, but the most common line of duty death are from traffic collisions. Whether an officer was at fault or not, in a traffic collision, makes no difference that he/she was killed in the line of duty. If an officer is killed by gunfire, from a bank robber, but that officer used poor tactics that resulted in his/her death, is that officer also to be excluded from the memorial?

Try following a cop down the highway at THEIR speed even when they aren't on a call or pursuit. They are elitist. I do that occasionally. Once, he slowed down, got behind me and pulled me over for speeding. I didn't get a ticket but, I got the "do as I say, not as I do speech." They do feel they are above the same rules that everyone else is required to live by. If he gave me a ticket I would have deserved it without a doubt.
It's like punishing your kid for smoking pot as you roll your own joint. I guess it's hard to write a ticket for following the example that should be set.

We shouldn't be honoring people because they get themselves killed ignoring the laws they impose on the rest of us. No sympathy here.

This officer was not on duty. And......when was the last time a citizen got a $2500 fine from their employer for doing something wrong at their workplace? That is what it costs this officer. Going to prison like anyone else? Is that a statement of experience? Or are you just upset about the police in general?

Statements like this just shows your ignorance. As long as people like you live in Tulsa County, law enforcement here will always have a job because you are job security!

As you know Terry.....God will take care of this issue. There are many people in this world that will always cuss and badmouth law enforcement, no matter what the venue. We know this because of experience, not opinion. The only perfect human that has ever been on earth was Christ. Law enforcement officers are human, and make mistakes, so those that condemn go ahead and throw your stones. Just remember, when you, or your family, need immediate help, for whatever reason, an emergency responder will be speeding towards your location to assist. God will take care of this issue....no doubt about that.

I used to believe that when a cop would fly by me without any lights or sirens, but when I catch up to them and they are in the McD drive-thru or QT I realize they are just abusing their privileges.
When they get killed doing this, I just figure it's natural selection.

You think we should look the other way when a drunken cop destroys his squad car, simply because he was 'not on duty' when he did it?
You must be one of the elite privileged.
