Does anyone know what happened today at the high school? I heard there was a bomb threat, students were in stadium, then taken back to classrooms. Anyone know any specifics about the threat, where it came from, and how it was verified as not a concern?

Wow the stupid kids that did this are severely immature. They give a bad look for us at Dickinson high. I had to sit out in the heat missing lunch as did a very large ammount of students and staff. It wad very unnecessary and they deserve whatever punishment they get and more

This was handled so WRONG on the part of the faculty. I know there were a LOT of parents who were angry at the way this situation was handled! Is there not a policy in place to handle a situation like this? So many parents got to the school, followed the procedures asked of them without complaint, JUST to have the faculty decide at the last minute that students could be returned to the school and OH YEA! all those parents who got their kid signed out and got their slip with their kids name on it to a faculty member, got told "sorry you waited in line for an hour and followed our procedures, but now for the safety of your child, we will not let you take them home. NOW you have to go stand in ANOTHER line in the front office and follow our procedures AGAIN to check your child out of school!

I tried to bring my son in late b/c he'd been out for an illness, only to find there was a "complete shutdown, no one in or out". So we rode around looking to see what the deal was. I sat in the back stadium parking lot, called into the district office, and they told me it "was a bomb threat, but everyone's being held at the stadium are safe and secure (they didn't tell me how long and that they'd be playing "Nat'l Treasure" over the video/intercom system to keep everyone busy) PPl said it was hot; I can imagine just sitting that direct sunlight for 3 hours would have been hot and the kids missed lunch so there wasn't even water or anything for them while they sat there.
I turned around and went home. He wasn't going to be able to get in anyway and luckily he didn't miss anything. I heard from my house (I live close enough to hear the loudspeakers) around 2 pm, they were dismissing back to the school.
It sounds like they don't have a procedure in place for this. Strange considering it's a post-Columbine/9-11 world we live in.

Im very disappointed in the way the whole situation was handled by school officials and by the local police. When I arrived to pick up my daughter, there was absolutley no organization or system in place to keep our children safe or to release them to their parents. Like others I stood in line for an hour was given a pass to retrieve my daughter then was escorted to give it to a group of teachers at the edge of the ballfield, who said I wasnt allowed to be there and should wait near the gate for my child. I waited there 20 minutes with a group of parents until we were told we had to leave without our children. Furthermore, when I arrived there was an unattended vehicle in the middle of the fieldhouse parking lot driveway blocking cars in parking spots and causing a traffic jam. Before I got in the first line to get the release slip for my child, I informed an officer at the door to the fieldhouse of the vehicle. The officers response was "we cant get a towtruck in here with all this traffic theres nothing I can do about it".Then after being sent away without my child, I ran into Mr. Coombs (assistant principle) and informed him that the vehicle was still blocking the driveway, his comment was "the vehicle belonged to a school administrator". Im very angry that this entire situation was handled so poorly by the school and police. Thank goodness it was a hoax and our children werent really in danger with only incompetent officials to protect them!

It started off like a usual fire alarm evacuation but when we were moved even further away I knew it wasn't your ordinary fire drill! It was very hot outside and the heat and lack of food and water were having affect on some of us! Being outside in the hot for about 3 to 4 hours was very tiring but after the bomb threat investigation was cleared we were all released to go home! Coming to school today I saw many students with sun burns and tan faces including myself! I'm just glad nothing went wrong!:]

"EVACUATION SITES
Should evacuation be required from your child’s school, the students would be relocated by school bus to Dickinson High School or McAdams Junior High School provided that the location is safe. School personnel will be with your children at all times. The relocation site will be posted on the front door of the evacuated school campus."

Policy in an emergency is to move students to the Jr. High school. The excuse of 517 was closed is not good enough. If they can get the kids to the stadium, they can get them on the bus and around to the jr. high. The threat was to the high school. The stadium is part of the high school What if there was a bomb and it was actually in the stadium where they held our kids? It is not like evacuate all but this part of the school...really??? Where was the thought process involved with this decision?

The letter received today says they were provided supervision for individual needs, water and bathrooms. BS! My child did not have water or use of a bathroom because other kids chose to start fights. My kid is fair skinned and is suffering a severe sunburn and is also on medication that causes difficulty in regulating body temperature. When they were shoveled back to the classrooms at 2:10, my child was extremely hot and about to pass out. It was a teacher who we have a personal relationship with that took notice of the condition my child was in and cared for my child in the best manner she could until my child could be boarded on the bus home.

I understand not allowing a free for all at the stadium. But that is apparently what was happening as the kids were allowed to roam free, just not in the area designated to teachers.(more BS)I understand the need to evacuate, the need to not allow students to leave because of the situation. But why have policies if you are going to pick and choose which ones to follow? The outcome of this whole thing could have been better and the officials in charge really need more common sense and emergency management training. Someone needs to step up in a situation like this and take charge.

And no, I do expect kids to tough it out in situations like this and do not want any special treatment for my child, but to lie about what was being done for our kids is what has me mad.

Your child was kept safe correct? Then shut up and deal with it. There are procedures for a reason.

Instead of blaming the faculty, staff and multiple police agencies who worked hard to insure the safety of the students.... How about blaming the students that caused this inconvenience and chaos?!(... Because they thought it would be a great practical joke...)
I hope they are prosecuted to the full extent of the law... and then some.
