Living Room Productions is Going to the Dogs
…and they couldn’t be more excited! Six of the company’s veteran actors have been rehearsing since August to prepare their fall production, Snoopy!!! The Musical. The show was written by Charles Schultz based on his comic strip, with music and lyrics by Larry Grossman and Hal Hackady (the same team that worked on The Muppet Show).
Embodying Schultz's “Peanuts Gang” are Amy Tichy and Andy Jacobs as Lucy and Linus Van Pelt, Jillyn Jacobs as Peppermint Patty, Lizzie Milanovich as the irrepressible Sally Brown, and Justin Noethlich as everyone’s favorite wishy-washy Charlie Brown. The whole cast is definitely very enthused about their project. Their praises for the show were many and it was easy to get swept up in their enthusiasm.
"I love the simplicity of the show and Schultz’s witty sense of humor. It really captures all the endearing qualities about the comic strip. The music is cute, clever, and catchy – I dare you to walk out of the theater without humming one of these tunes!– I know I couldn’t! The show is GREAT for kids with its recognizable, lovable characters and family approved content (the script itself is taken directly from the comic strip!). When we were considering what to do for our fall show, how could we not choose Snoopy!!! The Musical ?! We are so excited to have the opportunity to share this great work of theater with you!" Says Jacobs
However, this show is not primarily about the Peanuts kids. They are the framework in which America’s Head Beagle can shine! Snoopy himself comes to life and leads the cast through the show. LRP’s own (infamous) W. Logan Caldwell will don the dog collar to star as the title character.
“I can’t say that I ever imagined myself playing a singing, dancing dog,” Logan laughs, but he makes it quite clear that he’s loving the role.“I get to do a lot of Snoopy’s signature ‘bits’ like ‘The Great Writer’ and ‘The Red Baron’ and sleeping on top of the doghouse. I also get to put on a top hat and cane and sing ‘I’m bigger than Lassie!’ How cool is that?”
The script is witty and hilarious, but it also sees several sentimental moments, ending with Snoopy leading the cast in the uplifting song “If Just One Person believes in you…”
It leaves you with this warm happy feeling of love and togetherness. Just a perfect way to end a show about Snoopy. Schultz wrote in his comic strip “Happiness is a Warm Puppy!” That ‘warm puppy’ is Snoopy and he’s coming your way.
Snoopy!!! The Musical will be presented in Dickinson on Saturday, October 4th in the DHS Auditorium with curtain at 7:00 pm and in Hettinger on Saturday, October 11th in The Hettinger Theater with curtain at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and will be sold at the door. Anyone in school grades kindergarten through college will be considered students. High School and college students may be asked to present school IDs.
“I know that everyone is busy, and that it is difficult to make time for things like coming to see a show,” says Jacobs,“But I swear to you, if you make this a priority, put it on your calendar and come, I swear that you will be very glad that you did!”
