town guy, please attack the opinion, not the person. you debase yourself and the quality of the discussion (regardless of whether you agree or disagree with the opinion) when you attack the person

It looks like someone used my name (town guy). I assure you I would not have launched such an attack.

The Watertown paper OWNS the Malone Telegram, it sounds like a deadline issue, not a cover up.
Bad thing though it it's true, however I'll wait to see what the details are...
It does not...grow up and get your facts straight. Geez. The Malone Telegram is owned by the company that runs the Massena Observer

With all due respect HereWeGoAgain (and the tone of your post really doesn't earn much respect)-Malone Telegram is owned by the Johnson News Corp, which owns and publishes the Massena/Postdam Daily Courier-Observer and the Watertown Daily Times. The WTD is the flagship and original newspaper of the group, so most of us simply say it (The WDT) owns the Telegram. Perhaps you need to fact check first before dumping on others.

Here you go..um Herewegoagain- just a tidbit article from last year. I believe the Malone Telegram is the company's least favorite, because it only sustains itself and turns no profit. Which explains no website and the same circulation numbers for the past 10 years.

Clarion sold to Johnson Newspapers
Joint announcement

Publisher Harold Johnson of Johnson Newspaper Corporation in Watertown and Publisher Corrin Strong of Clarion Publications in Geneseo have announced that Johnson has acquired the name and subscription lists of the Lake and Valley Clarion.
The Clarion will discontinue publication with the March 22 issue and subscriptions to that paper will be honored by The Livingston County News, which is owned by the Johnson corporation.
The Clarion and the Livingston County News have competed in the same market since both were founded in 1989.
“We viewed this as a great opportunity to consolidate our leadership position in the Livingston County market,” Johnson said.
Clarion Publications will continue to operate the Clarion Copy Center, but has agreed not to compete in the weekly news business.
“After 18 years I felt it was time to do something else,” Strong said.“I will, of course, continue to be active in community affairs.”
Strong, a candidate for Mayor of Geneseo last year, is a founder of Please Don't Destroy Geneseo (PDDG) a group that formed in 2005 in opposition to a Big Box proposal in Geneseo.
While there were no full time openings at The Livingston County News available for Clarion employees at the time of the sale, The County News has expressed interest in hiring some of The Clarion's freelance correspondents.
Existing subscribers to both papers will have the remaining portion of their Clarion subscription added to their County News subscription. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Johnson Newspaper Corporation is a family owned and operated business whose publications include the Livingston County News, The (Batavia) Daily News and the Watertown Daily Times as well as five daily and nine weekly newspapers throughout New York State.
Johnson Newpaper Corporation was represented in the negotiations by Tom Turnbull, Publisher of Johnson's Batavia Newspapers Corporation. The Clarion was advised by Cribb, Greene and Associates of Bozeman, Mont.

JNC owns The Telegram just to help keep the Press Republican at bay. They do not care if it makes a profit or not. I just heard from my friend and circulation and newstand sales were horrible in July.

Sad. The Johnson Corp. does not care at all for people's livelihoods or for the communities they purport to serve. As corporate America continues its media takeover and the big fishes eat the little fishes this type of thing can only get worse. And make no mistake, the Johnson Newspaper Corporation vies to be one of the big fishes. There will be a lot of journalists waiting tables before long. Again, sad.

I hear ya Trevor.

They reimburse mileage at 34 cents and their health insurance is a fracking joke. Anyone that works there will confirm.

Wow, I remember when it was 21 1/2 cents. All the reporters are rich! As for health insurance you just have to make sure not to get sick. Plenty of people don't get sick everyday.

Leash law? Did you mean for the dogs or the Telegram reporters?

Actually, I'm pretty sure Malone has a leash law in place. Most places do.

Opening new business in Malone can do nothing but help. I grew up in Malone. I come home every 4-6 months and it looks better each and every time. The more business means more jobs. That can't hurt anywhere.

Seems to me after reading the Telegram and seeing they only have a satelite office in Malone for the MALONE Telegram thats a shame the town needs to buy it back and put it back to what it was about the town news with the rest just added on.

Yeah it was funny to hear he "retired" instead or FIRED!!! now he gets to keep his town pension instead of losing it.

Non est seems the mayor is the lackey to the 100 who's who in that town.
