raccoon behavior

I know nothing of raccoons so I have questions for those. That may. There is a raccoon that keeps coming in our yard at night and walking around. Lately he seems to be getting to familiar ( in my opinion ) and has been coming to our front window and looking in. The other night my daughters were outside trying to catch lightening bugs and seen it about ten feet away and when they yelled it didnt run but just stared at them. This made me a bit nervous so I brought them inside. Is this normal behavior for raccoons? We have no food or trash outside so he has no reason to come this close or get all chummy with us.

The raccoon may be rabid, be careful, call animal control.

Yeah, I get the feeling you're not the sharpest around.

Either I enjoy stupid answers from people who have no idea or I just didn't think about it. Not sure which answer to use. Thanks for the link though.

We had the exact same problem about a month ago. Our little critter got too close to the kids in the daytime as well and it scared the heck out of us. If you live in city limits, animal control MIGHT help you. We live just feet away from the city limit line and they would not help us at all. I called the conservation department and the agent from sikeston brought us a trap. We caught our raccoon on the first night. After that, you just set him loose about 10 miles away and reset the trap...we thought we had one and it turned out to be 3 or 4! This won't stop others from coming around, but at least it helps get the BRAVE one's away.

Yeah I thought we had just one too until I was taking out the trash last night and seen four hanging around.
