Now talk about Dexter Corruption.
Corruption abounds

There has been corruption in Dexter since the days of Willis Conner. It got worse when they hired that crook Mark Stidham as City Administrator. A clearly set up deal. He had been fired from Tyson's and was about to get fired from IXL before the deal was made by Mayor John Pruitt to put him in as Administrator. The City has quickly gone further down hill since. It has gotten worse since Paul Haubold was promoted to Police Chief. Thankfully now he's gone, but Mark Stidham still remains. Since the arrest of Tammy Fields, I look for a lot more things to come out before it's over.

I checked case.net and there are now only two charges not four charges listed. Why?

Well if casnet does not have anything on it, then it must not have been a legal arrest. She may beat the whole thing on a technicality! Maybe she can claim none of it even happened.

Just like when former Alderman Crotchfold was arrested and jailed. His supporters said it never happen just because it was not on casenet. They would not let a little detail like his arrest and jail time was years before casenet was invented slow them down – They just said it must not have happened.

Of course then that dang newspaper had to go down to the records and find the Arrest Report, the official document confirming the arrest.

Then when he lied about the Motel Tax being applied “secretly” to the restaurants. Again that dang newspaper proved the truth again. The tax never applied to eating places.

Crotchfold could really fix this place if it weren’t for those meddling kids and their dog down at the newspaper.

It's possible she could have offered to turn States Evidence against some officers to get a couple of the charges dropped. Sounds like Paul Haubold might want to watch his back.

If she's going to cut any deals she would be wise to do it now while Briney Welborn is still prosecutor. After January all bets are off.

If you think the sweetheart deals will stop when Oliver gets in, you are going to be suprised. The only change will be that some of the old cronies still get their backs scratched along with some new cronies. That's the way it has been and always will be. Grow up.

I hope you are wrong but... at least we will have someone new to watch. I say lets give Oliver the benefit of a doubt and we all knew eventually we would elect a new prosector because eventually we all die. Change can be good and I look at Stoddard County moving in a new positive direction just like STIDHAM said. (Like it was stated earlier, we can help him move in a new direction as well, OUT.)

As a matter of fact casenet has cases going back to 1988. The little infraction you keep throwing up in his face happened in 1991 according to the little newspaper blog you keep citing. After 10 years anything less than a misdemeanor is wiped off of a person's record. It's your corrupt city that kept it on record all this time. Were you aware that it is a violation of the 14th Amendment to bring it up after 10 years? Since you're a cop you should have known that. Maybe you'll finally get a little lesson on the law after Russ starts handing out summonses to the police department now that it appears that Tammy Fields has decided to tell some things you didn't want out.

As for your "motel tax", guess what. You might want to compare restaurant prices in Dexter with those of Poplar Bluff and Sikeston. The ones in Dexter are higher. I noticed something else too. I work on the road a lot and tend to keep my restaurant receipts when I eat out to apply to my taxes.(Business expense you know.) I started comparing tax rates with some old receipts and some that I achieved after the motel tax went into effect. Guess what! The tax rate went up. It's about like our pool that was supposed to be covered, open all years round and had a tax on it that was supposed to stop after the pool was paid for. Even Mark Snider and Larry Warren had been fooled into thinking the tax was going to end as were the people of the city. They said it was going to end when they were campaigning for it. I heard the speeches. After the pool was paid for the tax didn't end. Guess what! Not long after the pool was paid for the Park Department started building a new gym right by the pool. Hmmmm! Sounds like more city corruption in action.

More corruption facts

When Mark Stidham was hired as City Administrator he was replaced by Jerry Walls. Neither Mark Stidham nor Mayor John Pruitt liked Walls, but he had been elected by the people so there was nothing they could do about it...at the time. Not long after Walls became Alderman he, Mark Snider, and another alderman whose name I will mention out of respect to Bored to Tears started looking over Stidham's contract. All three of them discovered discrepancies and one thing in particular that should have disqualified Stidham from being Administrator. One of them was that the Administrator had to have a College Degree in City Administration. The one unnamed Alderman who was in school himself at the time discovered that not only did Stidham NOT have this degree, this particular major was not even offered in any college. These facts were brought before the coucil amid much protest from Pruitt and other Aldermen, one being Larry Warren. Not long after the Kennedy case happened and it was forgotten except by the three Alderman who questioned the contract. Suddenly it was conveniently "discovered" that Jerry Walls had served 4 months in the Federal Pen in Michigan for embezzling Union Funds. He started getting anonymous blackmail letters and suddenly changed his tune in favor of the Mayor and Stidham, even going so far as attacking the unnamed Alderman in a public meeting. They had gotten to Walls and he towed the line for them afterwards voting for anything they wanted that he had previously been against, even pushing for the firing of then chief Ken Rhinehart would have sued the city had they done so.(Who by the way was the one who "found" Walls' prison record)

This is how our city works, folks. Corruption all over the place, and it's getting ready to hit the fan again. Unfortunately all the Alderman on the Council are butt kissers for Stidham this time. It'll be swept under the rug on the City level, but I don't see Russ Oliver allowing this to happen on the County level. They don't have Briney Welborn to kick around anymore. I encourage Russ Oliver to start investigations and turn over what he discovers to the State Attorney General. It could be New Jersey all over again.

2010 sales tax rate is 7.1%(4.1% food sales)
2010 rates were 6.1% and 3.1%

a whopping 1-percent increase. how much did your wages go up? bet it beat that over the 10 year period.
and the rec tax is for all city park services.
look around and dexter has a top-notch park & rec program.
how many city council meetings do you bitchers and moaners attend.
oh wait it's so much easier to get on topix and do the bashing.
grow some balls and do your speaking where it would count.
city council meetings are the 1st and 3rd monday's of each month
(unless it falls on a holiday)
see you there.....

The real talk is not in the open meetings 2x month, but in closed meetings and at the airport restr. Come on, do you really think they will talk about all of this in an open meeting or for that matter, with all the aldermen present. POINT: did anyone go to the meeting held after Fields was charged. Was any of this talked about in public regarding the stealing of PUBLIC money. PUBLIC money is PUBLIC business.

I might be slow, but I not sure what you mean by the tax rate. If city officials get mad at the citizens, we get paid back by tax hikes?

Yea, we can brag about about our parks, etc. We have no INDUSTRY to speak about. JOBS, JOBS with benefits are needed. We can only eat out so much and buy vehicles sometimes.

I can kind of see the point on this one. According to Crystal Allstun, they had an over abundance of people not paying their water bills, having it shut off, and then going out and turning it on themselves after the water had been shut off. They were getting it free. She said that the water department started putting locks on the pumps and these people would go out and break the locks off. So the city made an ordinance stating that the meters belonged to the city and that anyone caught breaking these locks would be arrested and fined.

I don't see how it would be a problem for a plumber to shut off the water to work on the pipes, though. They have to call the city for that and then it takes them forever to get out there and do it. And as far as I'm concerned, those meters are ours. The fee for the new meters that were recently installed was added to our water bills, so we're paying for those meters, yet the city still considers them "theirs".
