Ok I have to say I got on here for the first time and was saddened by all the negativity. Really???? I have lived in a few parts of this state and my children have gone to different school districts. Dexter by far has been great. Yes there are the bad things that go on here like other towns, but from what I have seen from the Dexter community has been a very caring community and school system. I see many many teachers go above and beyond what they have to do. They care about our children and not their pay check because many of them spend more their classrooms than they should have to. When there is a family in need the take up money out if their own pockets to help that family. Dexter is an awesome town and I am proud to say I am from dexter. Your life is 95% of your attitude. How happy you are is up to you don't focus on the negitvity but the positive.

I am no hater first and foremost, I am a CONCERNED parent! SOME of the teachers go above and beyond to teach our children and I commend them for that, but it is the others that I am talking about! I don't believe that any school official should be yelling, screaming, threatening, or bullying our children. I have asked to see videos of what my child has done wrong and of course there is no video of my child doing anything wrong, but yet he has been punished for well over 2 months. I have asked for a certain date when this punishment will be over with and of course I keep hearing 4 weeks. When is the 4 weeks ever going to end. I am asking for a specific date, not for someone to put me off for another few weeks! This is what I am angry about and I have every right to call these people out! These are OUR children NOT THEIRS and it is our responsibility as parents to know EXACTLY what is going in our schools and if it ruffles some people's feathers then it is what it is plain and simple.

Sorry that your child can't behave but it is parents that think their child is always an angel that are really the problem. What happened to respect your elders For some reason parents stopped teaching their kids that but expect teachers to teach them when their child disrupts the whole class. I don't come from money, don't have a lot of money. Live paycheck to paycheck and my kids never are in trouble at school because of one reason. They know they will get it worse at home it they don't behave. On the flip side I had a wonderful day in Dexter today. Hope yours gets better.

Dexter parent - did u ask your child what they did? Do you know the punishment they are receiving? OR if your that concerned go to the School and speak with teacher / principal. Don't be lazy go find out, if not shut up. More than likely you are not disciplining your child at home and they are acting out at school. Be a better parent get the facts straight and quit wasting time on Topix when you should be raising a child. SMH

Not all teachers are saints, and some do overdue it. With that said..the problem with kids that do run wild is this B.S soft parenting crap! Don't spank your kids it's abuse! Ya okay! If spanking is abuse my parents would be doing life. We got spanked, had to cut a "switch" off the tree, spanked with belts, flyswatters, basically the closest thing possible. But we learned from it as well. I didn't grow to hate my mother because he disciplined me, I respect and love my mother and I know I deserved everything I got. I am glad she kept me in line. But now days parents are acting more like a friend to their child than a parent. STOP! YOU ARE NOT THEIR FRIEND! YOU ARE THE ADULT! Stop babying these kids and coddling them every time their life gets a little tough. Instead teach them how to appropriately deal with it and grow from it. And for God's sake send them outside to play! Let them get dirty and muddy and be children without a game console or smart phone in their hand. Be an active part of their lives instead of sitting on the sidelines wondering why they are constantly in trouble. Authoritative parenting, if you don't know what it is LOOK IT UP!
