National Guard eyes new home at Hanscom AFB

There are 3 comments on the Lowell Sun story from Apr 24, 2008, titled National Guard eyes new home at Hanscom AFB. In it, Lowell Sun reports that:

“While, generally, we certainly are supportive of Hanscom Air Force Base and want to see it continue and thrive here in Massachusetts, we do have local impacts from the Air Force being here that we do have to be careful about.”

The Massachusetts National Guard is seeking approval to move its headquarters from Milford, a "strategically ineffective" location, to one of three potential sites, including Hanscom Air Force Base. via Lowell Sun

Confused about move

Taunton, MA

Talk about "strategically ineffective," imagine moving the National Guard headquarters from an area removed from a potential ground zero of the Boston beltway and directly into harms way!

It is foolish to move a strategic headquarters from a geographically safe location into the most congested traffic area around Boston. Imaging trying to move forces into and out of the area of route 128 to support a disaster.

Also, imagine that the headquarters is now within an area ripe for an attack versus the relatively removed location of Milford.

Do not be fooled, this move is for the convenience of the Governor and The Adjutant general (who lives in Boston).
Why Milford to begin with

The taxpayer in Massachusetts is really blind. Why did the Headquarters move to Milford to begin with you ask? How about the backroom deal in the statehouse between the then MG Vezina and Sen Bertenazzi who made sure lots of funding was available IF the headquarters moved into that large useless building in Milford. Never mind that hundreads of workers had to commute to that desolate location, because that hack Vezina lived many times do we have to pay for political deals like this. In the end, Vezina was unveiled as the vermin he was.
