People need to know about something because it seems we are being ignored.

oday I get home and we have the Fire Dept and a bunch of my neighbor’s out in the street looking in driveways and lawns. Come to find out most all of our driveways have stuff seeping up everywhere through the concrete and lawns. Its shiny chemical/oil looking substance that has sheen like a rainbow in some places and others it’s a brown foamy substance. Something is not right! The neighbor that called the fire department has lived here over 15 years and never seen anything like this. I have lived here over 5 years now and never seen anything like this either? Everyone took photos and one of the neighbor’s called the local police department and the channel 3 news and the sent the fire department and no call back or response from the channel 3 news station.

Seems strange our neighborhood is about 8 feet above the ocean, has a marshy waterway to the sound. Another peculiar thing is one of my neighbor’s was working on a certified beach clean up team today and he witnessed a foamy substance hitting the beaches of Destin. His report indicated when it was found it created a large crowd and several higher level cleanup people said it was what they call “product” oil dispersement with foam and slicks. They began cleaning this substance up and probably not reported. To top it all off…..the cleanup guy comes home to his own neighborhood and the same stuff seeping through the ground….what’s going on here?

After the HAZVAB team tested a few of the areas with a (5 strip test) they said they could not determine what type of oil or substance it was and indicated it was not toxic. None of us in the neighborhood believed this and are calling foul play on behalf of the big oil giants and local government. I cant believe all of this is happening in front of our own eyes and we are being ignored.

We have a HUGE problem down here and we need help not cover-ups.

Somebody needs to help us find out where this stuff is seeping from and let us know if we are in danger.

I’m very concerned for my children and others in the neighborhood. Please help!

Ok the hazmat team tested it and found it non-toxic. Why are you blaming the oil giants and local government? Someone needs to help us, get on the phone and help yourself! Even the TV reporters did not see a problem and they are always looking for stories! Seems people never want the government or to pay taxes until something happens in your front yard.....notice your post has been here for 9 hours and no one is interested? You want to help yourself, take a sample in a jar and take it to have it tested yourself.

You’re funny! BP and the government is at fault for allowing this stuff to reach the beaches and land. If his was in your yard you would be concerned. This is a joke! I should not be bottling up this stuff and trying to get find someone to test it properly. Local fire department used a strip test and that’s hardly a solution. They could not identify the substance yet deemed it non toxic. I don’t believe the test is all they can do. We are at ground zero here and everyone i spooked and does not want to loose the tourist business because of things like this. Someone needs to respond that has some direction for all of us not idiots like YOU!

You don't seem to be getting much sympathy here do you? Must be a reason for that huh? so you don't believe your local fire dept. which is staffed with people that LIVE IN YOUR TOWN? And I'm the idiot? I bet if we talked to the fire dept. people they might have that opionion of you. don't get on here and whine "please help us". Get off your butt and do something for yourself then post on here what YOU did.

One of the best ways to get attention to an issue is to have a meeting with all your neighbors -- print out a meeting place and time, doesn't matter if it's in someone's driveway. Take pictures of each driveway or other place where the stuff is seeping. Use a digital video camera, preferably. Post a video or several videos on you-tube. Send emails to EVERYONE you know, in or out of state, with the url to the video. Ask them to look at it, and notify their local news.

Hey, and post the link here, for the you-tube videos!

Won't take long to get it some attention, if what you say is true. I agree that the strip test could not determine toxicity, they had no right to say it was not toxic, since they could not know.

to stranded, not to start anything because I agree with your first paragraph. But you don't know what the strip test does therefore you have to trust the fire folks who live in that town. Why would they want to harm these folks? You (and everyone else not there) do not know if this lady even knows what she is talking about. Someones septic tank may have overflowed or the city sewage system or just the rain drain system got backed up...who knows?

Christian you can take a sample of that oozing stuff to a lab to try to find out what it is, with you and neighbors so worried. Probably no mobile substance analysis lab in your town, much less any done by police or firemen or news stations. None done on topix that I know of either, why try here? The hazmat strip test can rule out a few things that are an immediate danger. Not rule out everything or long term pollutants.

and google's ears must hurt from all that ax grinding, wtf???

Thank all of you who have posted EXCEPT wynne from AR...your a complete numbskull and should not even comment because your not here. And don’t know what your talking about! Your negative post and comments show how confrontational you are by nature. Come on down and check this out for yourself and tell your kids to go play in the front yard when you don’t know what’s seeping up through the concrete and lawns.

We are 5 blocks from the gulf and we have a marsh that leads to our homes. I have several cleanup people who work on the beaches confirming this is also coming up on beaches. It oil discernment material that nobody has tests for yet. The fire department is not equipped to make a judgment like they did. We are all very worried and want answers. So far we have contacted 4 local news papers and nobody will respond back after we show them photos? Something is wrong with that and we have no way of getting the proper help down here.

We have packaged several samples and are sending them off to outside labs as we speak. I guess BP and the government don’t want to let this out. I have been told by beach cleanup employees they are spraying the dispersments close to the shore to break this oil up. If they are doing this we are in BIG trouble down here. Dispersments don’t float to the surface and go to the bottom and can soak through land masses. The low lying areas like ours are getting the first signs of this. This is what we think is happening but we wont get to the bottom of this until the press and local government gets involved.

None of us want a handout….all we want is this stuff tested properly. We have kids and family that lives here and this is the #1 concern. This is not a joke and I don’t appreciate your insensitive remarks.

Some photos of it coming out of my driveway.

Over 18 homes had same type of thing and lawns where saturated.

p.s. Don’t try and say this was sewer or oil from the roads. Many have lived here for 15-18 years and never seen this before.

Those pictures look strange. I am so sad and sorry that your community is being polluted. I got to see Fort Walton Beach a few years ago and it was beautiful with stunning white sand beaches.

"quit crying" really DOES NEED a handout. They hail from a town pop. 50,000...give or take a couple of inbreds. Average education is 10th grade either that or their brain got all wet in the 2009 flood. LOL...does it ever show!

Good for you taking samples to be tested. Now lets wait and see what they find. Be sure and post here what the findings are. Then we will discuss further.
