I live in Destin and so far there have been only very few tar balls on beaches further West. It hasn't QUITE reached us, but when it does it's not like it's an immediate gush of black goo. There are plenty of people on the beach right now. You should be fine.

It sickens me when I saw that woman crying on TV because the beach had oil on it. Seems that all you people are worried about are the beaches, and none of you care in the least bit about the wildlife! The oil disperments the BP is using is far more toxic than the oil itself, and sooner or later, that toxin will show up on your dinner table, one way or another. Do none of you realize that just beacause you can't see the wildlife and the ooral beneath the ocean, that the devastation there is far, far more devestating than your "precious" beaches that can be cleaned up. Wake up people! You can do your tanning in your backyard if the beach has oil coveing it. The wildlife and the ocean itself is what's important here.

Ok whatever JOD! We are worried about the wildlife but does it look like we can do anything? I'm not a veternarian and I don't save animals and can't help them so i pray for them and live my life. So yeah we're worried but that doesn't mean we're going to stop living!

maybe everyone should pitch in to help clean, its coming on the beach whether we like it or not, its got to get out of the water. Think of the beach and sea creatures, not to mention those whose livilihoods depend on fishing, or tourists. I hate it for all concerned.

O'kay. First I want to say that I do care deeply about the sea creature; dolphins, fish, coral reefs. Being able to see the dolphins in the water was one of the main reasons my family chose to celebrate our 25th Wedding anniversary in Destin, FL. However we have spent a lot of money and I can't afford to have my family exposed to the fumes of the oil, tar, etc. Can someone that lives in Destin area tell me if there is a smell of oil coming onto the beach as well as tar balls, oil sheens, etc. I do want to come to Destin but my daughter has real bad allergies and I don't want to expose her to it if it is there. We would be traveling 13 hours just to reach Destin. I'd appreciate it if someone can tell me accurately what it really happening in Destin,Fl. Thanks so much!

MY FAMILY WILL BE ARRIVING IN DESTIN ON THE 12TH. NEED TO KNOW THE CONDITONS OF THE WATER? WE TRIED TO CONTACT THE OWNER OF OUR HOUSE THAT WE ARE RENTING, BUT HE WILL NOT RETURN CALL. WE ARE SPENDING A FORTUNE AND KIND OF WORRIED ABOUT TRAVELING 10 HOURS TO STAY A WEEK IF THERE'S OIL ON THE BEACHES. WHAT GOOD IS FLORIDA WITHOUT WATER AND BEACHES. KIND OF LIKE MOUNT RUSHMORE WITHOUT THE HEADS.:(
PLEASE GIVE ANY INFORMATION PLEASE!!!

Lucas is a liar and jerk. What the hell makes people do things like that is beyond me. There is no oil in Destin, I was there today. I think a kid found a tar ball,,,,,,,,,which happens once in awhile anyway!! The wildlife and beaches are fine.
