Sounds like a bad case of NIMBY....you know Not In My Back Yard...syndrome has hit Park Ridge. Get over it or move since it is obvious the airport is not going to change the flight paths to simply fix your problem by passing it on to some other area. This complaining is similar to the NIMBY sufferers in burbs where the potential increase in rail traffic has many homeowners crying foul.

Buy a house near RR tracks and there just may be trains just as when you buy a house close to airport there just may be planes...how tough is that to fgure out?

These people deserve some sympathy, but did CHOOSE to live near a major airport with expansion a real possibility.

Most areas have drawbacks. For example, I live near downtown and must deal with crowds, panhandlers, and very expensive parking. But at least most people near downtown and in Park Ridge can move - unlike many decent poor people trapped in bad areas.

Each airport choice has advantages and drawbacks. Let's consider.

Expanded O'Hare: Increase capacity at a winner, and help Chicago offset job loss to surburbs. BUT: nearby NW Side and suburbs get more noice.

New Peotone Airport: More jobs for south suburbia. BUT: evict farmers, expand sprawl, and stick Peotone with noise, traffic & pollution, in a facility the airlines don't want.

Expanded Gary Airport: Help a poor city with jobs. BUT: lose revenue to Indiana, and risk airlines and travelers not using due to fears about Gary.

Use High-Speed Bullet Trains: Match the success of Europe and Japan, where people prefer taking bullet train to flying to nearby cities. BUT: cost of building tracks above (or below) street level is expensive.

Which choice do you think is best?

Quit whining! I used to live at Harlem & Belmont in the city. That was in the path of one of the approaches. Tough for me. O'Hare is more important than Park Ridge, and if you chose to live there, you know you are going to hear planes. This is like buying a house next to the river and complaining about floods, also stupid.

The only reason Park Ridge is slightly relevant is because of the world class city of Chicago. Without growth in Chicago, Park Ridge wouldn't exist.

Expand O'hare and ignore the ignorant.

I've lived in 6 different 'burbs in my life, and in each one sounds of air traffic, railroad traffic, And auto traffic existed.
You have to learn to deal with it - I sleep with ear plugs so the incoming early morning red eyes don't wake me.
It's remarkable to me and a bit odd, that folks who have lived here all their lives don't realize the entire city of Chicago was founded and remains the central transportation hub of the U.S.A.
And we should be Glad for it, as it provides jobs galore that won't go away! Stuff will Always have to be transported!
So..famous last words in the Windy City..... Quitcher whinin'!
