Loud noise maby an airplane

there has been a continuous noise for like 15 mins now sounding all most like an airplane circling my house and im trying to figure out what it is.. any help?

Hearing the same noise, we can't see anything. All the sudden it JUST appeared and now as I write this as quick as it came LEFT!

We're near Dash Pt State Park in Federal Way...
My friend thinks it's the ocean's waves crashing, but I think he's trippin...

We are in between both state parks, and it was NOT the waves LOL. It was definetly airborne, and not a helicopter. It had jet engines (C31 perhaps??). It sounded as though it was just circling, really scarey.

Heard the noise for about 20 min around 1 am in Twin Lakes.. was louder on the south side of the house. I woke the GF to make sure I wasn't hearing things (she was not impressed). Sounded like a plane was right over me but the sound was stationary.

This was probably the "humming mistery noise" There is nothing on the loca news. We heard it too.

yea that was really freaky i live near dashpoint and all of a sudden the drone of what sounded like jet engines appeared and the sky on the horizon turned bright orange. all at about 1 AM

bright orange? i missed that.. i just heard the sound.. it was probably behind my apartment lol so looking out the front window i missed that? lol

We actually called 911 and after awhile found out that it was a ship's engine out in the Port of Tacoma.

there is now way that was a ship engine. it was directly over my house.

I'm sorry, but since when does a ship's engine being out make the noise of a jet engine. Last I checked ships have deisel engines. I don't think the police have a clue as to what it was and they were just telling you something to make you feel better. Also, it's happened multiple times the past few nights and I've never heard it before. Sounds like a lot of steam pressure being released or a jet engine.

Looks like this post went dead... I'm still hearing this noise and its really driving me crazy since it seems to appear more in the middle of the night than any other time. Ryan had it right, it sounds a lot like steam pressure. My guess is something down at the port.

Anyone cracked this yet?

I heard on May 7 as well and it is still not known what the noise is.
I heard it on and off once in the while during the day, and early evening now sometimes too. But it is not the continued sound nor is it as loud as the first nite that it went on for like 15 minutes. When I hear it now it just goes for a few seconds on and off a few tims and then no more sound. I wish I knew what this is.
It does sound like a pressure relief valve but the first nite that was running kinda long to be releasing pressure ! and in what ? I live near Hoyt Road and it does sound like it is in the port.

I just heard the noise today at about 1:00 pm here in the north end of Tacoma. I have lived between McCord & SeaTac for over 20 years and am quite accustomed to airplanes flying over head at any time during the day and night. Whether the planes are 1 at a time or 1 right after another, but the noise I heard today was not what I usually hear. It lasted for 8-15 minutes and sounded like a REALLY REALLY loud jet engine. It lasted way too long for it to be a passing plane. From my house near the University of Puget Sound it sounded like it was coming from downtown Tacoma. Very bizzare, i recall hearing a similar noise a few months ago at night.
