There were multiple people who were with him the night of the 22nd, not just one. He was not intoxicated and it is still a mystery as to what happened. He lives very near 300 stanton and the path to his dorm is heavily traveled (especially on friday night) Nothing is fishy about the situation, he just disappeared without a reason. The lack of information is due to the fact that there are no leads or reasonable possibilities.
You don't find the fact that he disappeared without a reason to be odd or fishy? I hope that he is found safe somewhere and that everything turns out okay, but something doesn't sit right with me about it. People don't just disappear without a reason.

My son goes to ISU, this is every parents worse nightmare, My heart goes out to the Lacina Family and Jon's friends and Classmates. Here in Iowa and especially around the Grinnell and surrounding area, everyone takes on their neighbors pain and makes things more personal when a local community child goes missing. Lets find Jon

There is already a group started with almost 9,000 members. This is the place to get the information about Jon firsthand. All of his classmates, high school friends (including myself), fellow Grinnellians, and more have joined.

You always see stories, but never truly understand what it feels like until it happens close by. Jon and I took a lot of art classes together in high school. It is still hard to comprehend. Seeing his picture on the news is just surreal.

Praying for you Jon and the Lacina family. You are a great friend and we need you back here! Thought and prayers!

The concerned Iowan asked Why did it take so long to report?, well you have to realize that most male students do not call their family's (Mom and Dad) every single day, they are busy living their lives, Jon is 21 which means technically he is not a minor, the parents first probably contacted his friends, when that came up empty they contacted the school and when that also was not finding him, the police but with an adult 48 hours has to go by, hence 5 days go past. Sad but true, agonizing for the parents.

Sylvester McCurry goes missing in Superior, WI on Sunday, Eric Peterson goes missing in Bloomington, MN on Tuesday and Jonathon Lacina goes missing on Friday in Ames, IA. Three young men go missing in the same week right along Interstate 35. In fact Eric Peterson's car was parked almost in the shadow of the 35W bridge over the Minnesota River. Think something is going on here?

I had no idea 3 people had gone missing in one week, that is terrible. Supposedly police don't want the word to get out about the smiley face murders because they fear with publicity these people will strike again. No one knows for sure if these incidents are even related, but something is definitely fishy. In my opinion the public should be notified and aware of this. With specific knowledge and facts from authority (not just what we read on the internet)we might be able to help. If nothing else it should draw the attention of more experienced detectives. Over 40 deaths have all similarly occurred in just 11 states and 25 cities. If 3 have occurred in the last week something has to be done. Its going to be extremely devastating if this turns out to be the case, but I believe it needs to be treated like it is. I'm sure this young boy would not just disappear without reasoning. On a website I visited that was last updated on January 25th it was already suspected that this may be related to the suspicious "drownings" of college males. what would possess people to immediately think this if there were not some type of lead? I don't, just expressing opinions. I hope everything turns out for the Lacina family but as of right now things aren't looking good.

As an ISU alumn and a person from Grinnell. My heart goes out to the Lacina family during this time. I know the Lacina family and I can't imagine the pain they're experiencing during this time. I hope that Jon returns home safe. Please keep Jon in your thoughts and prayers.

Butterfly makes a good point. I know Jon and t isn't like Jon to just disappear. After reading about the other students' incidents it seems like these things have to be connected. Something should have turned up by now. I really hope these boys are all okay and well. My heart goes out to Jon and his family/friends as well as Eric and Sylvester.

My son grew up with Jon - they are best friends! I spoke to Jon over Christmas break - happy guy as usual! My son spoke to him on Thurs night - tried to contact him the 1st part of the week and no response which he thought was strange - his parents tried to contact him the 1st part of the week and after no response for 3 days contacted authorities and me; asking if Jon might be with my son.

Everyone I know is shocked! This is NOT Jon!

Praying he will be found and SOON! I can't even imagine what the Lacina's are going through! Prayers going up for Jon and his family!!! God Bless!!

It seems pretty FISHY to me... a young man disappearing on a busy campus... my heart goes out to his family... I work at ISU and this is two too many "disappearances" for me!

This is also the first question I had. If he was a person who kept in contact with friends and family,(I saw this on the news), then how did nobody realize he was missing for a week?*Praying for the Lacina family*

Definitely weird...I have been looking up articles on the smiley face killer all week now and I also heard from some students that under the bridge walk way by the lake there is/was a smiley face, but I'd be way to scared to go look. I really don't understand either how no one saw anything when he's only like 2 blocks away and it's a Friday night, the only thing I can think of is some kind of accident happening and people trying to cover it up. But with the drowning a few years ago that's way weird especially because I heard the water was only 3 ft deep there and that his key card was activated but in the wrong building where he lived and then why would anyone be walking by the lake that early in the morning! Uhhh... I'm just glad I'm not a white male or I'd be way stressed!

on iowa states web page it says that they've been searching mechanical rooms, elevator shafts, steam tunnels, garages, sheds and other remote locations. All areas in and around ISU residence halls and apartments are being searched. Fraternity and sorority leaders also are checking those houses. air search Dive teams will search waterways, including Lake LaVerne on the Iowa State campus, to eliminate those areas as possible locations.

The disappearance of this male college student is all too similar to those of other male college students which started with a young man who was attending Fordham University. That young man and others are termed victims of the Smiley Face Murders.

That Fordham student was not far from his residence for the university and this latest missing person was 2 & 1/2 blocks from his residence hall according to the news account.

I have read the account by the two retired NYPD Homicide detectives against the circumstances in the disappearances of the victims such far of the Smiley Face Murders. This disappearance fits that and given that one of the more recent victims was a male student attending one of the Univesity of Wisconsin campuses, a victim at ISU is not a leap of faith.
