I am a very angry parent with the way the press is dealing with the sucides at southeast polk high school. I was just told we are called sucide high not funny, how is that going to help the students deal with the issue. Parents need to take action with there children and sit down and talk to there kids about this and not hear about it from the press. I also think channel 13 needs to say sorry about the story that was on air.

I do not know anyone involved. Here is some food for thought:

Does the attention matter when you're gone?

My answer is no.

The true question is why are you fighting when this a truly sad turn of events i have several friends at SEP. I have and still do fight depression and self mutilation. I live in Des Moines I am only 17 so i dont no alot but ik loosing loved oones is hard

I don't think that is what they ment by that. everyone has their own opinions and that was hers.

Be that as it may noone ever kills themself for attention. They may attempt it but they always tell someone if they want attention. The only way some one kills themself for attention is if they atempt but noone comes to their aid...

Wendtland wasn't a suicide that I know of. All of this is a systematic failure of our society to clearly see was is going on with our youth. It is far easier to mentally say "Oh that was just a one time thing"
No, it's the first time getting caught of many times of not getting caught. In the mean time we have lost another former student. I am tired of it. I am curious to know how many of the kids regularly attended church.

Are we teaching these kids that it is far better to take the easy way out vs. owning up to their problems like a man? Grow up! Good Lord, nothing in life is so terrible that is worth dying for, because after a few years, you are forgotten. Suicide doesn't immortalize you.

So the next time you feel the desire, cry your heart out,Ask God for help getting you through it and take a deep breathe and move on.

For the record alohol is a drug. People tend to minimalize it, but it is one.

Being a former student at Southeast Polk was hard due to the demanding expectations and ever-changing political scene. For an athlete the road was even more daunting due to the amount of people counting on you to achieve victory. I realize that giving sage advice to individuals that are considering suicide can be a dangerous thing but I consider it better than silence. Here are a few thoughts for those of you that are in pain and considering this solution. When high school is over you will get the opportunity to take back your life and design it as you see fit. This means you will be able to see who you want on a daily basis and do things that make you happy. Albeit these things don't come free so seriously consider your career so that you can meet your personal goals and desires however unique they may be. High school if very much like the real world but more like a prison at times. Remember you are loved by many, if you don't believe it just take a walk through any number of new facilities your parents have built for you. Make no mistake the teachers and parents of the community made that happen with their own hard earned money. The cost is continual and worked into the taxes, so it comes out of the pockets of every parent, working student, and faculty member of the district. Nothing says I love you like money taken out of your paycheck before you even see it. Another thought to consider is that everyone has some degree of pain and misery, start being part of the solution, you may find in helping someone else that your pain begins to lessen. Your teachers and Councilors are a great resource talk to them, put the ball in their court, make them work and if their idea sucks tell them that! Be honest with them your life depends on it. In closing, the cold hard truth is this... we need you because youÂ’re introspective, which is a rare quality and very valuable. Don't give up on us!

ok i think part of the problem is people do not believe that depression is a serious medical condition. i mean you would never say to someone with cancer oh its just cancer get over it. but every day millions do that to people that have tried to get over depression. basicly saying fuck you and your problems there is nothing wrong with you. i am speaking from experiance i know how hard it is to live with depression. that is why it hurts me so much to hear of all these suicides. it is because i know wat each of them was going through i also know what each family has to go through i have lost people very close to me in my family and one of my best friends kill themselves. it is something i wish on noone. it is the hardest thing in the world. truthfully the only reason i am here to say this is that i have seen first hand the damage suicide does to your friends and family and i just couldnt do that at this point to my family and friends i still deal with depression on a daily base. it is hard to do but can be done and noone should ever have to be afraid to ask for help but that is what happens offten

I don't go to SEP and am not in high school any more, but I did go to Bondurant and I do understand what the school is going through. We had several suicides at our high school one after the other. There were rumors of a suicide pack and all sorts of things that weren't true and at this point does it really matter. What matters now is how you help and support each other through this. It is how you allow people to deal with this in their own way and on their terms. You can not force someone to stop feeling sad about the situation because it is sad. You can't dwell on why but dwell on what each individual meant to you or to the community. It matters on how you honor the life that each person had and remember all that was good about them. Also for those that are getting ready to graduate and leave - don't forget the ones that are being left behind and were left behind. I know that a year from now or on the anniversary of their untimely deaths, to reach out to the brothers or sisters left behind..let them know you still remember and you won't let the memory of their loved one fade into the past. Be kind to each other, watch over each other, and support each other. It will get better, but it will take time. However, it will NOT be something that you will ever forget nor should it be.

Teen suicide is happening all over the country. This story is very sad and I wonder, does anyone talk to these teens? Do they have friends, classmates, teachers who can recognize that something is not right?

Really why do people do suicides?!?! i mean seriously...some people may think that "oh i can't live any longer cuz the mom of my child won't let me see him/her" Really! THATS WHY THERE IS SUCH THING AS COURT AND RIGHTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT!!!! seriouslly get a life and grow up before you think "oh lets go jump off a cliff and die!!"

i went to Southeast polk since y 2 grade year and it is an amazing school except all the drama that goes on there the sucides are the person who did its fault....the school any school DOES NOT encourage it...they don't say everybody when you get a chance go kill yourself...they tell people to go talk to someone...such as an adult about your thoughts...they don't want a bad rep and they don't want to be looked as upon as a bad school..blame the person who did it i hate the fact that people like to blame the school or the kids friends...well don't!
