There will be a micro chipping clinic in Van Meter on June 5th. This doesn't help track your dog, but it will help you find him if he ends up in a shelter or at a vet.

We are hoping to get
WHO to give us a story on this... there will be a minimal charge and we hope to keep our animals safe. One stolen dog is one too many.

I'm absolutely appauled that there are such vile people that would steal people's dogs!?! Why?! As if there aren't enough homeless pets you have to go and steal the one's WITH homes?! It's wrong no matter what type of dog they take bc whatever they're doing with them, you know it can't be good....:( After seeing this story and related I'm outside with my dogs all the time now (they'll take them over my dead body). And now I let them bark and annoy people that approach/walk by. The more noise the better - here's an instance where naughty dogs are a good alert system!! Perhaps an electric fence would be a nice surprise for the thieves as well? Hmmm....

Our black lab is one of the stolen. She was taken WHILE my husband was outside working on our driveway. I won't even go into the heartache, the anger and such because I know other fur kid owners can imagine. She was only a year old. Her brother misses her still. They were only able to grab one. For over a year her brother would sit in the driveway and just stare down the dirt road. It has been one of my most painful experiences.

I'm all for Microchipping however it doesn't help in these situations. We had two labs stolen out of their kennel w/ microchips ----people need to understand they must be taken somewhere that will check; that is not the case in these situations.
About time the Sheriff believes there is an issue.

This sounds like another dog fighting ring. They like to use dogs like labs because they are considered trustworthy and easy bait.

I am taking a guess that either people are desperate and are selling the dogs to either people or labs. Or a dog fighting ring. It is absolutely horrible.

Several years ago I caught someone taking my cat. I happened to have a flag pole and started running after the man and he dropped her.

maybe we should start treating these as if they were kidnapping a child. You are kidnapping another living being, so the punishment and the resources used to find the victim should be the same.

There needs to be a law: Nobody should be able to take a dog for research, or otherwise, unless it is from a certified company or a government agency. Each dog should be verified - unidentified, from a regional database(use dog license money to pay of the database). Also, cap the money that can be paid for each animal.

Here is what WHO, or whoever, needs to do; start an undercover investigation on the companies that TAKE IN dogs for research. It would be an easy setup, if they are unethical companies. Sell off a couple dogs with microchips to these companies and see what they do.
Then publish who these companies are and where they are located. That would bring some change. Unscrupulous companies need to be taken down...

If you had lost two family members and had to live in constant fear you would feel the same way. Dogs are nothing more than flea tranports and they do their business all over the yard. signed Mr. Kitty Jr.

Dear Mr. Kitty & Mr. Kitty Jr. Cat's are simply vanity pets that serve no purpose beyond making their owner feel that they aren't complete social outcasts. Dog owners on the other hand have multiple purposes for their pets. In addition, cats are not nearly as clean and dogs are not nearly as dirty as you would suggest. If you have a fenced in yard, a long lead, or a well trained animal, no real walking is required for dogs to do their business. Just walking for exercise (something cat owners seem to know little about as evidenced by your much higher rates of obesity).

Personally, My dog is trained to not set one paw on any furniture. This is not hard to accomplish as dogs extremely eager and willing to please those they live with. Far more than I can say for any feline shedding mongrel I have ever known.

Why would I want a pet that merely exists for me to feed, clean up after, and pamper it? I prefer an animal that performs practical tasks. Such as allowing my wife to walk at any time of the day or night in any part of town she wishes without fear of being mugged/raped/etc (try asking a rapist to stop and wait for you to get out a taser/pepper spray the next time they jump out and attack you "No, please, hold on just a second sir, before you start ripping my clothes off, let me get out my Taser!"). Or sitting in my front window waiting for me to get home and warding off any potential burglars (100+ lbs of big furry black dog with a loud bark is far more effective than an ADT system). Or how about playing with my children involving real physical exercise instead of just sitting there and looking cute. Ohh, and thereís always the fact that I have yet to find any kitchen cleaning appliance that is as fast, effective, or thorough at cleaning up the spills from my 1&1/2 year old. Iím also pretty keen on how he keeps the wifeís toes warm by sitting on them while sheís working on her laptop on cold days. Of course thereís always the fact that since I DO enjoy taking him for walks, he ensures I get plenty of cardio exercise.

People who say catís require less maintenance are simply people who donít count all of the furballs, cleaning of the litter box, constant hair all over everywhere (because no self respecting cat is going to stay off a counter or away from your food when youíre gone). Bill Cosby had an excellent comment regarding cats vs. dogs ďWhat has a cat ever done for anybody? NOTHING!Ē I tend to agree. The only reason I tolerate our cat and his 500+ furballs a year is because heís the most dog-like cat I have ever encountered.

Cat owners who actually think cats are better than dogs are either physically handicapped (they simply can't invest the physical energy to own a dog) or are mentally handicapped (too stupid to realize the true benefits of owning a dog).

Another thing that amazes me is that cat owners let their over-sized rodents do just about anything they want and never punish or scold them. I play online games and I can not count the number of times someone has posted in chat with something along the lines of "Kitty is trying to bite my fingers as I type, it's soo cute...I need to get a band-aid." or "Kitty was just using my arm as a scratching post because i was petting her. She's soo cute! Does anyone know the number for 911?" Seriously? You people let your pets attack you and you do nothing? If a dog bites a person it's either on probation and limited human contact, or is immediately put down.

In closing, cats vs. dogs? Yeah, right, what a joke. And to those wretched individuals stealing family pets of ANY KIND. I hope you are found, thrown in jail, and the keys thrown away. Ohh, and do yourselves a favor, don't come for my dog. Chances are he'd kill you.
