I encourage everyone to download and print the card from Angela Campbell's website, which you can hand to the police, along with your vehicle registration and proof of insurance if you're ever pulled over.

According to this website, "sobriety checkpoints" aren't allowed in Iowa, which is why they call this a "traffic safety checkpoint."

This has to do with REVENUE and nothing to do with changing behavior!!

Doing the checkpoint ANYWHERE OTHER than western Polk county means an added burden causing...

*crowding at the jail because of the arrests for suspended/barred drivers, warrants, drugs, ect.

*and at the courthouse with the added "fail to appear" at court dates, unpaid fines, and additional warrants.

Maybe law enforcement offices need to change their behavior and look for the real violators.

I happen to be one of the Officers that will be involved in this Traffic stop along with 20 others from Polk Co, Dallas Co, and the Iowa State Highway Patrol.
I am getting sick and tired of the citizens constantly blaming Law Enforcement, of trying to do their job of protecting the citizens of their communities.
I plan on throwing the book to anyone, I stop, if they say one word about our lack of not doing our jobs safely and in the most correct way, that we are trained to do.
I suggest you be prepaired to go to jail, for any violations, that we see fit towards Traffic Safety.

In a free country citizens should not have to drive through government chechpoints. Call it what you want Sgt Gestapo. I guess walking into peoples homes for "safty checks" Will be next. If I'm driving down the street legally I should not be stopped and asked for my papers. If there is a better example of big government will someone please show me?

On one hand, I smell a rat. I think it's bizzaire that the police departments would target areas with low crime rates for random stops.

On the other hand, I think some of you people are being far too grumpy about this whole ordeal. If you're cooperative and sober, all you have to do is deny them their search and you'll be on your way. It'll take all of 15 minutes, and this minor inconvineince will not launch us into 1984.

If you find yourself tempted to complain, remember that some people have real problems, and keep it to yourself.

This is absolutley irritating. Why should someone have to change their route to work or where ever they are going, just because there is going to be some random checkpoint? If I am driving safely and correctly, then I should not be pulled over. Pull over the people that have there toddler children sitting in their laps in the front seat. Or the people who are blaring there dumb music. Even the people that are zipping down the room to fast. Leave me alone. I follow the rules.

And to the Officer.....if the police officers didn't give people a reason to dislike them so much, then they wouldn't. Your comment alone shows how police officers these days are taking their "authority" WAY to far. Your duty is not to threaten, or to wave your badge around. It is to protect and help the community.

Hey Sgt.Pollard, why not set up your "traffic enforcement" diddy on University Ave , Forest Ave, or 6th Ave North?
8 out of 10 vehicles will be a crime bonanza of : No insurance, no valid DL,, dope, safety violations, no child seats, and my favourite--outstanding warrants.

Truck Drivers put up with this all the time. Driving down the road, doing nothing wrong, and get pulled over. Truck Drivers have no rights. They check paperwork, inspect equipment, can even search your truck without permission. There's your better example of big government.

Duh, the criminals in these areas will not pay their fines thus the reason for setting up in West DSM. This is all about money, nothing else. Hand the pig your license, insurance, registration and drivers rights card and sit there and remain totally silent, do not let them intimidate you. Assert your rights and don't answer any of their questions. Unless you have an open beer visible you will eventually be on your way. If everyone would just assert their constitutional rights, these things would eventually go away.

The most infuriating part of this is how they refuse to enforce immigration laws and its racist to ask them for id yet they can do this shit to actual legal citizens, pathetic. This country is doomed unless we stand up and fight for it. Print it off then if you are stopped exsrcise your right to remian silent and just hand them the card.
