Learn to tell the difference then. We had an Urbandale PD come up to our house and give us crap about the morning glories and sparklers we bought at Hy-Vee then he attempted to give us a lecture until he realized he was WRONG and they where not illegal fireworks. I have lived in Urbandale many years and have not seen any injuries or house fires as a result of fireworks, my house just north of the high school used to have the mortors from the pro land on my roof every year.
Maybe some of the "uptight" folks who feel the need to not mind their own business should find better use of their time
I know many of my neighbors who have already gotten their supply from Missouri for this years festivities!
To those that complain....hahahahahahaha

I think they should let all fire works be legal depending on where they do it.

News flash to Urbandale PD and Iowa law enforcement. Banning fireworks has never, and will never stop idiots from using them and only removes the enjoyment of using them from responsible individuals. This law has been faulty from its inception.

Redneck. It says you live in West Des Moines. Or are you that confused as to where you live?

Personally, I don't like the sound of fireworks. Haven't for the past 40 years. And the older I get the less I undersand why some peopel continue to just ignore the law.

How many years have people been going out of state to get fireworks? Why do so many people suddenly complain about what they did as kids? Stop whinning and trying to control your neighbors.

I live in Urbandale and have listened to non-stop fireworks on the 4th of July from 10AM to midnight for the past 3 years from 3 different homes in my neighborhood. I am not unpatriotic or an old fuddy duddy, but the incessant noise is enough to drive anyone crazy. If it lasted 20 minutes, heck even an hour, I'd be fine with it, but continuously throughout the day gets very annoying.

Finally-it's one day. Get over it. I can understand the many days leading up to the 4th being annoying but I would guess a lot of things annoy you.

This is stupid. Fireworks shouldnt be illegal in the first place. I used to live in Omaha where fireworks are illegal but you can buy them else. The Omaha PD didnt bother you unless you were being stupid. Iowa needs to get a clue and end the moronic ban.

I bet you never cross the road with out a crosswalk and never every go faster then the posted speed limit either. Some laws are just plain dumb and need to be reversed

Tim-you're right! If it WERE only one day, I could tolerate it a little more, but the week (if not longer) leading up to the 4th tends to be a gradual build up of the noise. Do I call the cops the first time I hear them go off? No! Nor do I call after listening to it all day, but now it's nice to know that there is something I can do if it continues past 11:00. I can tolerate it for a while, but it's awfully hard to sleep through all of that noise.

Sadly, the "American Way" has always been to blow things up! Fitting then, isn't it, that we celebrate independence day and freedom with explosives and fire?.......some of us really need to grow up!

Seriously UPD there aren't assaults, drug violations, public intoxication and so on going on in Urbandale during the summer. Do you really think this is the best way to spend your time. Get a clue.

People speed and its against the law. People drink and drive and seems like they are still doing that. People text and drive and thanks to the bleeding Mary's out there who didn't call and write your rep that will now be illegal and people will continue to do it. (I think you can still be distracted driving by makeup, reading books, messing with kids in the back seat - thats still ok.) Its against the law to beat your wife and it still happens. Yea, I will stop now, you should get the idea on how well laws work. For somereason people in this Country just love their reps passing new laws even though they are not followed and no Police anymore to enforce any laws.
