Iowans DESERVE Branstad - they got rid of him once for a person who was reversing (for the better) what was done by previous Governors, and then put Branstad back in office. Iowans DESERVE Branstad.

In light of this information about Gov. Branstad's son, one would think he would have been a little more compassionate towards those 38(former juvenile) current lifers whose hopes he snatched away by making them serve 60 years in prison. And I don't ant to sound insensitive to the victims families. The Governor's son should have went to prison as well but he did'nt.

To SMK- I'll tell you what it has to do with it. Not only did Eric kill 2 people driving drunk, he got cought drunk driving AGAIN shortly after, which he was an adult and did no time for. On top of that, in 1994, he drafted and pushed through the state senate a zero tolerance drunk driving law which pulled a minor's licence for a .02 or more BAC. Now, are you telling me it has nothing to do with his job when he slaps the people in the face with blatently getting his boy off from killing 2 people and goes spearheading laws like that? The mentallity of 'You follow these laws, but these people are exempt' is the epetiome of the Bush administration type polotics. And there is no DWI or DUI, it's OWI, but that makes no difference. Brandstad being voted back in just shows the ignorance of the state, period.

Yes, Eric Branstad had he share of problems growing up, like a lot youth does. However, not every kid got the break he got. Auto accident, drugs, etc. Many other kids his age paid a price. Some got the word "felony" attached to their records. What bothers me is that Gov. Branstad on the 14th day of Jan. 2011, after just being elected again to the office of Governor, rescinded Gov. Tom Vilsack's order from July 4, 2005 restoring the rights of convicted felons after they had honestly completed their sentences. Branstad rescinded this order. Would he have done so if Eric Branstad had been rightfully convicted of a felony??? I serious doubt it. For this reason, Gov. Branstad should not be re-elected to the office of Governor. Restore rights to deserving citizens! Many made mistakes, not just Eric Branstad.

Please click on link and read the AP Story from after the accident. Eric is a friend of mine and your all bashing him above is just not right. I know he works real hard and has a young family he cares very much for.

Any one born prior to 1970 Knows what going on. We knew freedom the younger generations brought up in the Internet age know nothing about. and as far as the entitled Elite are concerned nothing has changed regardless of party. If your not dirty, your not allowed into the political class.

I was a state employee when Eric killed 2 people & remember it well. Daddy sent him out of state, allegedly to a boot camp, to try to draw attention away from Eric & all his problems. This was not his first brush with the law or drug problems. He was arrested a few times for possession. Every time, the gov got him off. State employees were told they'd be fired and/or jailed if it was mentioned.
I attended a town hall meeting once & the guy sitting next to me brought up the incident. Everyone sitting near the guy was escorted out & threatened with arrest. I was among those 'removed', even though I didn't know the guy--just happened to be sitting next to him. The guy had merely asked why Eric wasn't prosecuted.

As a younger voter, I was completely unaware of this. How do politicians manage to cover this stuff up? Terry branstad lost my vote today! Am I the only one who didn't know about this? I'm 25 years old and this happened in 1991.

So the reason you won't vote for him is because of something his son did, not because of his policies and politics?
Don't get me wrong, what his son did is terrible and he should held accountable for it, but he is his own person and makes his own choices. A parent can only do their best and hope their children make the right choices in life. Now if Terry had something to do with getting his son off on murder charges that's totally different!

I am happy Eric did no hard time, but am disapointed that other people and other states imprison people for many years for non intentional killings. A suit and tie and lots of money prevailed but being poor does not seem to help stop uneeded prison time in the past in America.

His kid got off because of his father's position or intervention, how would your son do in the same circumstance?

To the fans of Branstad: again he seems to have used/abused his position to mete out retribution at the expense of a law enforcement officer's career (the April 2013 "speeding SUV" fiasco). Branstad's use of the power of his office as both sword and shield remind me of the corruption expected of a 1950's hick-town Southern sheriff. He may be capable of balancing a budget and creating a surplus, but he's unworthy of the office of governor.

Yup, the new story about Terry knowingly riding in a speeding vehicle and not giving a damn about the safety of the peasants who might be sharing the road with him says it all about his hypocritical, double-standard, above the law because I'm important attitude. And to make sure everyone in state govt. understood who's boss and who's above the law, he had to make sure the guy who challenged Terry's arrogant authority got canned from his DCI job.

Last time he ran, I actually voted for Narcisse because I couldn't stand Culver or Terry since so many of their policies would, in my eyes end up the same. But since Terry got back in and I've seen his arrogant appointments of corrupt cronies to the Regents and all kinds of state boards, as well as his vindictive BS against longtime bureaucrats like the former dept. head of the watchdog for nursing homes and the gay man who's fighting to stay in his job after Terry tried to fire him, I'll hold my nose and vote for any Dem against Terry this time. The other reason to vote against him is his cruel treatment of the unemployed since he got re-elected and took over Workforce Development, the state unemployment agency. He's made it as user-unfriendly, threatening, and demeaning as possible to save his rich business buddies paying unemployment taxes wherever possible by driving people off the rolls.

wow you people are ridiculous what does this have to do with Branstad's capabilities as governor and xrenegadex there is no such thing as a dwi so maybe you should know what you're talking about before you go bashing people.
. I know your post is three years old but I can't help but comment. Maybe you should get your facts straight. DWI is called Driving while intoxicated. It is very different from driving under the influence. And yes it does show Brandstand's Corruption of his office. Bending or breaking the law To benefit him and his family. His son killed two people, where is their justice? Anyone else would've gotten 20 years in prison at the time.
