As a retired American and former union laborer, I am outraged to see that both Frank Guinta and Charlie Bass voted for the 2013 budget plan written by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) that would cut health care for seniors in order to pay for more tax breaks for big corporations and the wealthiest Americans. To me, it is immoral to take from those with the least – seniors trying to afford to see a doctor and fill a prescription – in order to give to those who already have the most.
This bill will turn much of Medicare over to the big insurance companies, as many seniors will be using vouchers issued by the federal government, to buy health coverage from private insurers. This is nothing less than corporate welfare. Don’t these companies already make enough money off of us? This bill will also cut Medicaid, which is the only way most seniors can afford long-term or nursing home care.
In my opinion, both Guinta and Bass voted on the side of big corporations, and not on the side of seniors back home who are struggling to get by. They should be ashamed of themselves for throwing retirees under the bus while taking corporate money to get themselves re-elected this fall.
In the recent past I have spoken with both of our Congressmen personally and been assured they were only trying to save Medicare. If this is their idea of "saving" Medicare one can only imagine what's in store when they turn their sights on Social Security.
