After reading the logic of Greg Johnson it would seem that any theft under $25 should be allowed. Well then with that logic why would anyone use money anymore. Just go into a store and take it because it is not worth spending the money to prosecute. The NAACP gets more assinine every day. They are the most racist organization around but they play the race card even though they are the racists. What a joke.
If it was a white cop they would be trying to bury him. Screw the POS NAACP

Hey, stealing is stealing.
Doesn't matter what color you are.
Especially is a police officer. He gets paid for picking up and arresting shop lifters, burglars, etc.. so it's ok for him but not for the anyone else.

Sorry, he needs to go through the process and get what's coming to him.

Just because he's a black police officer he thinks he can get away with it and call the race card.

Sorry, not this time.

Sounds like the(PD) politics in this small Bs town is going way overboard, also sounds like Officers K.Hunt is good friends with the Chief.
I wonder if they page officer K.Hunt over the loud speaker at work for the fun of it...
I would.

Stealing is stealing, but safe to say there is a lot more going on here than a lousy $25 garden hose.

My impression is a cop with a major chip on his shoulder actively looking for conflict. Obviously not a team favorite if his own union is not backing him up.

And then we have Barney the police chief (straight from the Andy Griffith show)who thinks the smartest move to action is to bring in the state police to manage a cop he can't handle. It was clearly an internal affair.

So somebody will win, and somebody will lose, and definitely somebody will complain. But the biggest losers once again are all of us, because we're picking up the tab. And that's not just Ansonia... that's all of us.

This is the best post that I've seen yet concerning this 3 ring circus.
While the title of this story has merit as far as equal treatment for all the police officers in Ansonia, what is more important is the integrity of each individual officer. If in fact the officer charged was caught in the act of stealing an inexpensive garden hose, then he needs to be prosecuted accordingly.
If it can be shown that another officer was treated differently (more leniently) then whoever decided to handle that case needs to face some disipline for using preferential treatment of the other officer. This case shouldn't be about the value of the item taken.....but rather about the act itself.....as another poster put it "stealing is stealing".
I think if the evidence proves out that a "criminal act" has been committed by this officer, then he should be prosecuted, BUT--B U T-- What should also take place is an investigation as to whether police officals have used preferential treatment in their past disipline, and take disiplinary action against them, also.

We are happy that people like you are not in our town. Have you ever been to Ansonia? From your response it sounds like you have never even been to school let alone our town. We don't tolerate people like you. We have a nice town with great neighbors. The police dept is fine, we just do not need a cop with a chip on his shoulder. I think you should get him.

The Ansonia cops are so messed up. They need to be investigated! A friend of mine was ARRESTED about two weeks ago for reckless driving. He had a green left turn arrow, went to turn (he was in 1st gear) and some guy on a motorcycle took a right on red down the same road my friend was going. So instead of hitting the jerk who cut him off, he put his foot on the gas to avoid the situation. An ansonia cop that was in a building said he was driving recklessly and arrested him. Now, how could you see what happened if you weren't even on the street watching? The cop claims that there was no motorcycle either. Now my friend does not drive like a jerk. He wouldn't do something so stupid. He baby's his car! This cop just had a chip on his shoulder. They should all be fired. Ansonia is so corrupt. I always heard other people saying that and never believed them...now I do. And not for nothing, the hose thing seems like a waste of taxpayers' dollars. I'll buy them a new freakin hose just so I don't have to hear about this stupid case anymore.

I believe the individual who actually wrote this reply lives in a cave when idolizing his town as seen in these prized WEB Sites via actual Ansonia vistors. I actually lost money selling my home there because I needed to escape the deplorable conditions described here-in:(cut,paste,link)

best opinion I've ever read on this forum, this is not a case of color, this is personal. With the union not backing an office from public disgrace for a $25 dollar water hose, this guy steps on a lot of toes. NCAAP yea, they're a little over the edge on this 1. But seriously 25 dollars, I bet the judge is disgusted she has to waste time trying cases such as these.

I always enjoy reading these posts just to scope personal opinion by region throughout the state. However, more often than not I am left wondering why we, as fellow Connecticut residents (let alone American citizens, humans etc.) are so indignant to each other. Not only here on public forums but in person on the street, roadways, jobs and schools.
What happened to the days where an opinion was exactly that, a personal thought and feeling, usually derived from experiences and emotional connections from previous experiences in one’s life. It seems that an opinion, now a days is used to offend someone else as well as express yourself.
On the actual article
What does coke have to do with the crime? What does color have to do with the crime?
Yes the NCAAP has yet again chosen the wrong platform for their original intended purpose (the advancement of the African American, which is still a struggle. Caused by the long time standing grudges of our society on the part of both parties the African American and non African Americans)
This is a personal issue between two people who don't seem to understand the concept of professionalism.
Plain and simple.
Lets think about the way the few us are reacting to this matter, imagine the nation, the city, the state... if you ever wonder why police are losing respect by the day it's because they give us the chance to see them in these predicaments, let alone the countless other controversial- behavioral and procedural - problems. This chief may be taking his shot, but this officer (I hate to say it as an African American) idiotically gave him that shot. You are a cop, the hose cost $25, if you couldn’t afford it, couldn't you just borrow the cursed thing?
1 last thought, ok 2, not only are we picking up the tab in tax dollars, as mentioned before.
BUT…
The media has again, on a small scale, created the right spark to start building up old racial walls that few great Americans both African American and (technically) European Americans attempted to demolish for decades in the strive for not superiority of one race over another nor the shift of power from one race to another; but the honest, sacrificial strive for true equality...
And of course vote Barack – just kidding I dislike politicians - all of them!!

I've been following this story and some things don't make sense. Did the State Police have to be called in? I wonder if the chief called in the officer and asked him where it was before calling them in. Whether he stole it or not. That gets expensive.

There was a letter to the editor in one of the local papers from a retired Police Commissioner from another town that expressed concerns on how this was handled. His opinion was that it should've be internally.(I give his opinion some weight.)

The video...

Well I guess that there may have been many officers "caught" on video each time they took out the hose for use. I guess this officer was the last one recorded picking it up.

According to previous articles the hose was found in the department 3 days after it was reported missing by maintenance. I don't know when exactly they called in the State Police but I don't think they would rush down to Ansonia (within 3 days) behind a missing hose. Just my humble opinion.

I heard this officer ran for a position in the union but that the Chief didn't want him to and that the officer didn't lose (election) by much. That is what some in town have said. I don't know why those that voted for him in the department or his Union aren't supporting him publicly. That is strange. Makes you wonder what would happen if they did.

It seems as of this article that there has been some "tinkering" with fair and equal treatment because of what they found out through the FOI request. If its all true then isn't that officer also stealing (getting paid for hours not worked) and falsifying documents (time card)?

I don't give a hoot about race or religion... it just doesn't make sense and a lot of tax payer dollars are being used.
