On her web bio for Town Clerk, the first thing Pam Nicotera lists under "professional" is the fact that she worked for ACORN - The agency being investigated country-wide for indiscriminate conduct and behavirs with regard to voters and voting records, amongst other things.

Monrovians should think long and hard before they cast their ballot - be sure to know the backgrounds on these candidates that are running for office this year.

ACORN, June-August 1984. Did grassroots organizing of residents in poor Detroit neighborhoods. Also did fundraising. While I consider this job to have been great experience, it did not mesh with my moral understanding of the world.

Wow, three months 25 years ago. Banish this heathen from town.

I thought your party chair said yesterday in the Courier that "Republicans will stick to the issues this election and leave the muck-raking and innuendo to others". Good start.

Sorry but this is news. It goes to character. Acorn are left wing extremists.

She does admit in the link above that she did not agree with Acorn morally. She may have a reasonable excuse of why she worked for that corrupt organization.

That's great to hear.
Please support our current tax collector, clerk, and BOE candidates as they have no ulterior motives or affiliations as "the 4" seem to have.

I was raised in Monroe and chose to raise my family in Monroe. I am embarrassed by current discorse in town politics. When a perfectly capable individual makes a choice to run for office and ends up being slammed for working for ACORN for 3 months 25 years ago it is a sad day.

I may be on the same side politically, but Mrs. Nicotera certainly deserves respect for her good works and dedication to this town. Monroe needs dedicated people to serve. Step up and serve or stick to the issues.

yeah, so instead I encourage you all to take the side of the Concerned Citizens of Monroe PAC "Lock, Stock and Smoking Barrell" because it seems that they've got their priorities straight......If those ads don't scare you, then nothing will.....

This town has become so, negative, so divided and so narrow minded...Whatever happened to voting for candidates based on the issues?????

Sorry but it is relevant and goes to character. It is not politics but a fact that she worked for Acorn. It shows she is potentially a left wing liberal. Do we want a person like that in our town government? Politics are the same all over. This stuff comes out when you run.

I am also looking for a more conservative candidate. However, for me, the derogatory remarks back and forth demonstrate fear not confidence. You are hurting, not helping our cause. Leave the woman alone...so what if she is a liberal? Don't vote for her. Frankly, I am embarassed with the behavior on both sides and disappointed in some of the folks in my party. Open your eyes the polticians in this town are loosing supporters on both sides fast.

I heard she doesn't explore all avenues of free food available in the area for donations to the food bank.

Stocking shelves with food also doesn't compare to running a Clerk's office.

Vote carefully on this one, folks!

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aquarius

The more you want to control someone, or someone wants to control you, the more difficult life will be today. It's a Full Moon and a lunar eclipse, so the last thing you should do now is to act as though you own this person, or tell them what to do, because it will be an instant recipe for rebellion and trouble. Mars is retro in your house of significant others and open enemies after all. If you don't want to spoil the evening's celebrations you'll have to make compromises, and hope that this other person will do the same. Don't let the fuss stop you having a very happy New Year's Eve.
