fact box - spooner house spent 15 years in derby.
they also were fed by donations from area churches.
their facility in derby became known by undesirables and tarnished the area.
derby was the only city to accept the homeless when other towns said not in my back yard
shelton had the room now and a grant was obtained to build this beautiful facility.
shame on this article for putting derby in a bad light when they did the best they could with what they had, an old fire house.

I wonder if they need donations of food or books.

Remember, nobody ever wants to be homeless. Most people are just down on their luck, lost their job, or have some other issue beyond their control (abuse, addictions, family problems, etc.). Some people even end up homeless in the blink of an eye due to house-fires, it can happen to anyone!

Derby should be thanked for its many years of hosting the shelter. The same should be said about the Valley residents, organizations, and other volunteers who've donated time, money, goods and other services.

Shelton should also be thanked for its willingness to host the new shelter. I hope citizens of Shelton will welcome the shelter and its guests, and continue the good-will and charitable kindness for which the Naugatuck Valley is known.

Anon quote "Shelton should also be thanked for its willingness to host the new shelter."
I thank them for nothing.I've lived here 40 plus years, it's about time they did something for the unfortunate people. An example would be,where is there any REAL affordable housing in Shelton.Ever since the 80's its been greedy devolopers kissing ass with their elected pals.Screw the poor in Shelton.

I called the Phone# to see if a bed was available.
I tried every extension, I was unable to contact a live person to find out if there is a bed. No acess to staff
is a crime and a waste of time.
