Wal*Mart now controls 62% of the grocery sales in Arkansas.

When the competition is gone we will be at their mercy, good or bad.

It's not just the small "Mom & Pop" stores that suffer because of Walmart, they make it all but impossible for any other supermarkets to compete with them as well. They "strong arm" their suppliers to price their competitors out of the market on many product lines. They also lower the standard of living in many smaller towns by putting stores out of business that have full time employees with benefits while Walmart does everything possible to only employ part time workers so they can deny them benefits. Those of you who think you are saving money by shopping at Walmart, I would ask you to think about what it's costing you and your community to save a few dollars.

So has anyone yet thought about buying all of their Christmas Toys at Toys R Us this year, since they are WalMart's #1 target now? I am guilty of doing 90% of my grocery shopping at WalMart. But after reading this article, it makes me think I will be doing a lot more business with Toys R Us now!

Sounds like a great ideal to Me also. When wal mart run's the competition out look out they can name their own price and We will have to pay it.

shop around ... Walmart has folks just thinking they are getting it cheaper with their one-stop shopping stradegy! I have never made a trip to walmart with out spending more than I wanted and without leaving frustrated and settling for something I did not want. Clothes fall apart after one washing. I only go there for canned goods and cereal. I go to Hays for meat and JC Penny or Sears for best clothing deals.

ABSOLUTELY believe Wal-Mart, as well as other "big box" stores, have only been able to grow because we Americans allowed it to happen. Now that we know the true cost, we must change our habits. It's a rare occasion that I make purchases at Wal-Mart. Not only are you looked upon as a thief upon entering and subject to searches of your bags after checking out, many products are of a lesser quality than if purchased some place else. My latest example is printer ink. Have you noticed that HP ink from Wal-Mart does not print as well as HP ink from an office supply store?

It's called capitalism...you know, "what America was built on."

I can't believe there are republicans on here bitching when you continually base your arguments in support of it.

Make up your minds.

I hate the place. Many people that go there just go to see who they can find to gossip with and get in the way of those who really go in there to buy products. So you end up having to detour around the nuts that are just there to gossip, not even having the courtesey to get out of your way, and finding something that is made in the US is next to impossible.

When I go to a walmart, it is a have to case.

Not only that, but have you noticed how the prices have jumped on that junk?

A simple two click mouse cost around $4.00 five years ago, now I think the cheapest you can get is around $15.00. They are buying that junk for pennies and selling it at unbelievable prices.

true. Since the ol' man died, Wal-Mart has been made up of, and controlled by Republicans. Just check out that corner of the state. VERY WEALTHY, and HEAVILY REPUBLICAN. The two go together just like hot dogs and baseball.

I will pay more for a product just to keep the money in our town, If I can buy nuts and bolts at Lowes for $1 I would rather go to Paragould Bearing or Farm Parts, Gazaway Lumber ect and pay $5, We have got to learn to keep our $ in Our Town

I totally agree with this logic, and I can pay $5 vs.$1 for the nuts & bolts. Although I try, it's much more difficult to carry through with this same logic on higher priced items--lawn mower, compressor, etc.

You people break me up! If you hate Wal-Mart so much, then don't go there! The rest of us will not miss you, and you'll be able to pat yourself on the back for bring so trendily liberal and pro labor.

I for one don't miss mom and pop stores. I like having a big selection, fair prices, and convenient hours, and since I own stock in Wal-Mart, I DO keep the money in the community...

Many of you seem to be forgeting that Wal-Mart is giving many jobs right now though. They are one of the few places actually hiring people. They are the highest paying retail company around right now also. I am getting paid 11 something an hour to be working there while I know a friend who works at shoprite who works the same area for 8 something an hour. I know many of the workers are also single parents who need the job to take care of there children. If Wal-Mart was not around odds are some of them would probably be on the streets or worse.

The only thing I hate about wal-mart is that since they rearanged they don't have near the stuff they use to have. every time I go in there to look for something they don't cary it any more and tell me to check freds or the dollar stores! all wal-mart has anymore is a whole lot of nothing!
