Bad Habits Learned from others

Funny, when I was growing uo you would never see a girl, let alone a woman spit. Now everywhere you look you see females comfortable spitting in public. ever wonder why? Well I'll tell you, they learned it in school because they were forced to mix with a lower class of people. Instead of them learing good habits from us, our children learned bad habits fom them. Drugs, Drinking, disrespecting teacher's & adults, all learnrd at inner city schools. Can't pass? no problem, lower the passing grade from 75, to 65, to 55. We now have a generation of bad mannored under-achivers.

Do you blame society or neglectful parenting? My kid goes to school with bad mannered peers. Most of her friends don't know how to chew with their mouths closed. Nor do they know what the words "Please" and "Thank you" are. Does my daughter share any of these bad habits? Certainly not. Why? Because my husband and I took the time in teaching her proper manners.

Some of the rudest and meanest kids can be found in the lily white suburbs too. As Michelle stated if parents let kids get away with it, it's their fault not the "lower class" kids. What happened to parental responsibility?

The kids raised with rules insisted by their parents, leave them at the door when they leave with their friends. You can bank on that. It is so important for them to fit in socially with their peers, and yes that includes your lovely daughter. Also a huge heads up... those who manage to graduate go to college where they really learn the ways of their generation and the old school rules of their parents. Its just life. You cannot stop it.

Then those parents didn't raise their kids properly. I know my "lovely" daughter is a well behaved and nice mannered child because I am credited by parents, her teachers and others constantly.

You teach your kids that they influence people throughout their lives. If they have bad manners, people will only see the negative side of them and will never take them seriously. You teach your kids to be trend setters in a positive way.

Most people don't know how to communicate with their kids so they just tell them to "not do this" and "don't do that" because they'll be punished. This in turn causes kids to act in the ways you mentioned. If they aren't caught, there's no harm. They were never taught WHY some habits are wrong and this leads to that behavior.

And yes, I'd be willing to bank on that my daughter is a delightful young lady when left to run on her own values. I'm sorry if your kids weren't that trustful.

So Michelle, what your saying is that you never tested the boundaries when you were a teen? That you never tried to fit in with peers? Oh, how about that first boyfriend? Well the teen years are all about detachment from parents. A time when they must start trusting themselves, even if their wrong about some things. Gageing what is comfortable to them, while still allowing them to explore and gain knowledge that life teaches you. How are you going to throw down that trail breaking spirit you so desire for your child to develope without also giving the opportunity for them to take chances and even risks while testing the waters. And parents are the last ones to know what "angel" is really thinking and doing. Dont be supprised to find that she is really texting the biker dude down the street and planning to get his name tattooed on her ass. Wake up darling, before its in the ditch. There are no such things as perfect parent, parents with blinders on, but no perfect parenting stragities. If there were sweetheart, you would be setting next to Dr. Phil, making the big bucks.

My son is autistic, and he has low self of steam. Sometimes he drools in public, and sometimes i have to change his diaper in the middle of a parking lot. It's not embarrassing for me or anything but I figured i would let everyone know so I can illicit some sympathy from you suckers. Have a nice day!

Yes, I tested boundaries as a teen. But I did so to be rebellious. I got in trouble and I did things against my values so that I could impress my peers. I was a sheep following the flock. The reason I did so was because my parents didn't raise me right. There wasn't communication. Only consequences. My parents taught me that if I did something wrong and got caught, I would be punished. Never once did they ever sit down and talk to me about the importance of being a responsible teen. I wish they had.

My husband and I raised our child in a way where if she makes a wrong choice, we sit down and discuss it..with no punishment. If she is ever caught lying or sneaking, then the punishment comes into play. Have I needed to punish her as of yet? No. I also taught my kid to not be a follower. Others follow her good example. When we are out in public, I pat myself on the back every time my kid throws a disgusted glance at other kids behaving badly.

My method of rearing has been a wonderful and rewarding experience. My kid has no fear in coming to us with questions/problems. What it all comes down to is parents taking the time to devote to their kids. Teaching them to listen to their own inner voice and making their own choices without worrying what other kids might think. Teach your kids to be their own person.

You write so bitterly about my insight and child rearing habits. Maybe you should try my methods before you bash them. If you have no trust in your kid's, you have no one to blame but yourself.:)
