Crossed the white line twice or once with the double yellow lines. Still did not give the right to SHOOT.

Did you read the article? The officer was being dragged by the driver's car.

Didn't anyone ever tell you that police officers carry guns? If they pull you over, you stop. If you decide not to stop, deal with the consequences.

Know what I am wondering? Why do people comment without reading the article? DO they really believe the headline tells the story?

And, according to tell-lie-vision, the Chief denied the officer was dragged.

Luckily, this isn't NYS...how can I tell...the lightness of skin tone of the unarmed dead man.

But you morons could be right....driving violations should now be capital crimes....

No, I think they're afraid that if they get the facts, it'll upset their agenda - which is usually based on nonsense!

You're right; that give's the right to stop. It's the threat to the officer's life that gives the right to SHOOT.

He wasn't unarmed - his weapon was the car he was driving, which he tried to use to injure an armed cop.

Watch out. Guns were banned in D.C. Cars may be banned everywhere. The right to keep and bear cars will be infringed.

Just brush up against a tree or building to knock dislodge the attacker before he shoots.

Morris County... they are very much like Suffolk County, they stay parked in the wrong direction in the morning on rte 46 facing oncoming traffic during rush hour looking to write seatbelt tickets. Nazi's!

If one uses an object to do physical harm to another person, that object legally becomes a weapon.
The driver was using the car as a weapon, because he was dragging the police officer with it. He threatened the police officer's life and the officer had the right to respond with deadly force.
If one feels threatened by a police officer at a traffic stop, one should lock the car doors and ask the officer to summon his or her supervisor to the scene. One does not have to get out of the car or do anything but sit there with his or hands in plain sight so that the officer knows that he or she is not reaching for a weapon.
One should call 911, ask to be connected to the correct police department, and ask the dispatcher to send a police supervisor. One should remain calm and explain that the police officer at the scene is behaving in a threatening and unprofessional manner and that the motorist is willing to fully cooperate when a police supervisor arrives.
One should speak to the officer at the scene, the dispatcher, and the supervisor in a calm and respectful manner, keeping in mind that police officers who pull people over at night are sometimes shot and killed. The police may be just as nervous as the motorist.
But one must NEVER drive away from a traffic stop, especially while dragging a police officer with one's car. This is a deadly assault and the result can be what it was for this 21 year old young man: death.
The worst that can happen at a traffic stop is that one is arrested. One will be released and given a court date. If the arrest was unwarranted, one can easily find a lawyer and sue the municipality.
But dragging a police officer with a car is NOT an option.

you get what you are asking for when you screw with a cop..bottom line he was doing his job and he did it quite well..NOT going home to your family after a shift is NOT an option for any cop,you have a split second to make a life or death choice, they are trained to do so and are trained respond accordingly. no one wants to be a police officer to take a life but to save one, and a cop never wishes he has to use his weapon, but when it comes down to his life being in danger he makes that decision to see him and his fellow officers are save. I commend him, although I am sorry for the death of such a young person, this police officer did his job and he did it well.
