The online journal The Daily Beast recently confirmed what most everyone in the Charlotte area already knows, Independence Boulevard is a "Highway to Hell." 74 is the biggest mess 5:00 to 5:30. It is near gridlock at some intersections going east. If there is an accident you can expect to be late for dinner or an appointment. What a mess!

Yep...future looks very bright on getting only worse on that highway. Charlotte had some big spenders and it wasn't on roads.

Do we know if we are any closer to a real bypass from Wingate to 485? I looked up the projects on the NC website and it really only gives basic information. I work in downtown Charlotte and DREAD the drive every morning from Marshville. Also, on the weekends it pains me to even think about driving into Monroe for errands. I have never seen such lack of planning for one of, if not the, fastest growing county in the state. Something definitely needs to happen!

Oh yes, FINALLY after 30 years of delaying the Monroe Bypass, NOW we must endure the fate of an oppressive TOLL ROAD. Thanks to all the controlling democrats that kept this from happening while protecting their local cronies and businesses on 'Roosevelt' Blvd Hwy 74. It got protected in an citizen oppressive manner...without naming names, I think you all know whom.

Oh, I agree totally. Everyone else gets their 485 and other roads, toll free. I think I am just so desperate to shorten my drive time that I'll take anything that might help me at this point. I think it is really sad and sick that they are going to make us pay.

This bypass will not be connected directly to 485 because it would then be an Interstate (federally funded and regulated) highway instead of an Intrastate (state funded and regulated) highway. The difference is that the developers can have more exits on an intrastate than on an interstate highway, thereby increasing the profits they can make on the developement of east union county. If it were an interstate, it would have been constructed beginning in 1996.

I'm going to jog your memory a little bit. Do any of you remember who our state senator was back when the bypass was being planned? One of the most powerful men in Raliegh. A good friend of convicted crook Speaker Jim Black and ran interference in the State Senate for future crook and Easley accomplice Senator Tony Rand.

Guess who belongs to several investor groups that bought up land along the proposed routes for the bypass. If you look carefully at the map you can see a few odd turns. Some are probably legit. Some though are explained as dodging high density housing areas but strangely are no where near said housing areas! My-my wonder why the road meanders hither and yon?

Angry Voter is not far off the mark my friends. Power corrupts and the Democrats have been in control for so long in the state legislature that they feel that they have a license to steal.~~DEMOCRAT Governor Easley will be found guilty of using his influence to steal.
~~DEMOCRAT Rep. Jim Black has already been convicted of accepting bribes.
~~DEMOCRAT Secretary of Agriculture Meg Scott Phipps convicted of accepting bribes.
~~DEMOCRAT Rep. Thomas Wright convicted of fraud and stealing campaign contributions.
~~DEMOCRAT Rep. Mary McAllister found guilty of misuse of campaign funds and fraudulent documents.

Want to know who else is a crook? Look no further than our represenative, Pryor Gibson. Pryor doesn't live in the district he represents. He owns property in Wadesboro but his residence is in Montgomery County. He comes to Wadesboro around election time where they pat him on the ass and thank him for being their represenative. He has lots of loyal Democrats in Anson County that still live in the dark ages and don't believe in the 2 party system. They would willingly vote for the devil himself if he was a Democrat.

Pryor kisses the babies and tells the women they are "beautiful-just like your mama was". They gush and paw the ground with their pointed toe patent leather Payless Sunday best shoes. They have no idea what Pryor does or why they are shaking his hand. "He's some politician from Raliegh" their man folks tell them. "He's a Democrat. When you mark straight Democrat on your votin' ballot he's one you is votin' fer. Ain't he nice? He's a Baptist and a Democrat. Praise Jesus! Y'all be shore to vote y'hear?"

Pryor buddies up with John Edminston at the Home News and buys ads in the paper all year. John thinks Pryor is awfully nice to buy ads all year. Not many people do that. John writes some nice things about Pryor. Pryor thinks that's awful nice of John. Pryor sucks up to the editorial staff at the Enquier-Journal too but he doesn't buy ads. "Too damn expensive. Those bastards want an arm and a leg for just a little 3 line ad." Pryor tried sucking up to the announcers at WIXE but he couldn't get any freebies. "I think those sonsofbithches is Republican anyway". Not to worry Pryor is tight with Union County Democratic Party Chairman Harry Crow, he thinks. Harry, on the other hand, doesn't make much time for Pryor. It's obvious when you see them together Harry is looking for an exit both figuratively and literally!

As some of you know I have the Little Red Pig Catering and BBQ. Every single time I have to send one of my catering trucks to Monroe or further west on US 74 they end up being late because of the traffic on Roosevelt/Independence Blvd. Late means dollars in the catering business. I have told my drivers not to speed but it doesn't matter. You can't speed when you are in a line of stop and go traffic moving at a snails pace.

I knew John and Sherry when they lived in Monroe many years ago. I believe John was teaching something at the Career Center at the time. This was many moons before friends of future felon, ex-governor SLeasley tried to embarrass John with trumped up charges. I thought a lot of John back then and still do. He's got excellent qualifications for holding office. He's smart, he's a good speaker and he's got a pair.

You know you've got my vote John

For what it's worth, most ALL politicians are shady, self serving, ungrateful, crooked people. Republicans are old farts who, when are at a loss for common sense, start waving the American flag and attacking an opposing opinion with the inevitable non-tolerance of any religious view other than Christianity, and attacking your patriotism. The party is so out of touch with reality, they are no longer able to represent the majority of their constituents honestly and fairly. Democrats are happy spending money we do not now, or will ever have in the future, to fix the leaky pipe, only to have our grandchildren pay to replace the plumbing! It is high time that we as Americans stood up and tell Washington that we have had enough of BOTH parties and start a party that can clean house, roll up their sleeves, and get this country moving in the right direction. Stop the government waste, get the illegals back to wherever they once came, clean up the environment for our kids, take care of our Vets, and start making education both affordable and mandatory in order for this country to compete globally. We are no longer an example of democracy, and for veterans such as myself, and for all of those who made such sacrifice for this country, you should be ashamed of yourselves.

It's a wonder more people don't get killed on 74. There are a lot of people that just plain can't drive on that road. You see women putting on makeup. People texting and talking on the phones not watching what is going on. Sometimes they form a rolling roadblock driving so slowly in the passing lane that no body can get around them. They will slam on brakes unexpectedly or change lanes in front of you causing you to slam on your brakes. If there is a wreck or someone pulled over by the cops or anything distracting on the side of the road they will slow down to a crawl to rubberneck causing traffic to back up for a half mile or more. while they look.

I like your name. LOL. How about suddenly slowing to make a turn, turning at one mph, then putting on your signal halfway through the turn. That's a major pet peeve.
