Maybe the people protesting could spend the day looking for jobs, instead of interrupting one of the oldest lasting peaceful traditions in the city of Denver.

No one comes to their Pow Wows or whatever ranting and raving about the injustices the different tribes committed against peaceful whites or even their own kind.

Let the parade have it's one day in the spotlight without all of the childish crap.

Better yet, why don't these protesters use this energy to start a Native American parade in Denver, with all of the tribes from the area participating. That would actually be really cool, and if it were filled with rude and obnoxious protesters, something people could even take their children to.

If you really want people to understand your point of view it would seem to me that having your own platform - rather than trying to hijack someone elses - would make a lot more sense. I would like to attend both events.

Why do we celebrate this idiot Columbus?

"oh lookie! dems must be da Injuns!"
What a crock.
If that's how you feel, I don't know why you'd celebrate it? Don't you have something better to do?

This response is to Leavitalone. you have been left alone too long, you need to get out to the library and read some history about who Columbus was and what he did to the indigenous peoples of the world, not only did he commit genocide against indigenous peoples, he also enslaved many blacks from Africa. There is nothing peaceful about that, "Manifest Destiny" was about the injustices the early European white settlers committed against peaceful tribes. To help you be less ignorant I have attached the address to Bemis Library in Littleton, 6014 S Datura St
Littleton, CO, get out and read some history about Columbus. I suggest "1491" by Charles Mann....

Columbus was a man of his times, as are all people. You change, or you disappear. That is the way of it. No people have ever been, or will ever be, peaceful. The atrocities committed by Native American tribes against each other are famous, also. The Native Americans that remain in this country are separated into 3 groups, basically (aside from huge diversities in their cultures)-there are the very rich who have moved forward and taken advantage of being allowed to have their own laws and their own governments to build businesses that profit tax free; the elitist educrats who live for the spotlight; and the very poor (the majority), who get nothing from the former or the latter and live in squallor and poverty and alcoholism. Instead of living in the past, which is the curse of races who will not live in the present,(as we see in extremist groups the world over), why don't the Native American pseudo intellectuals get their butts working to harass their own leaders to take care of their people? DO SOMETHING POSITIVE, for once, instead of harassing other groups who are just looking for a cultural celebration of their own. They aren't suppressing anyone, and this whole foolish battle over Columbus Day is just this; contrarianism- a form of creativity for the unintelligent and/or the elitists in our society. And yes, I own a very large personal library of Native American writings, finding it very beautiful, insightful, and am saddened terribly by the demise of their people and culture. That just isn't the point. No one celebrating today had any intention of being disrespectful to you- at least they didn't before you became such a righteous pain in the a$$. Get over yourself and go do some good- there's much to be done.

And who are you to insult a person who has some positive ideas? What makes him or her ignorant- the fact that they don't see things your way? Your comments illustrate Leaveitalone's points very well- you don't want peace or understanding, you want your way, and anyone who doesn't agree is an idiot. Believe me, we understand PERFECTLY. We just don't agree.

NO WAY! First, we are not sure that he even discovered America. It is said that others before him have made it here before, but didn't get the credit. Second, there are much more important figures that we should honor, instead of a Spaniard who was eventually responsible for the deaths of millions of Indians.

Do you think we should celebrate Columbus Day? http://www.youpolls.com/details.asp...

To LeaveItAlone:

Are you seriously going to spout that crap, and actually believe that it's true???

Like nativepride said, go to a library and read some books. For example, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, a (gasp) nonfiction book.
