Woman dies in her Denton County Jail cell

A Denton woman arrested on suspicion of injuring her mother last month died this morning in a Denton County jail cell, authorities said. via Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Well, you first proved your intelligence by typing in all capitals, then really demonstrated it by your comment against "bleeding hearts". I guess the idea of rehabilitating someone, and giving them proper medication, at at cost equal or less than what it is to keep them in jail is too humane...oh excuse me...BLEEDING HEART for you. And do you understand the efficacy of the jailing system? It might as well be ZERO.

How about you imagine having a child that has had behavioral problems stemming from mental illness, then having that person packed in a jail with criminals for an offense they may or may not understand they committed, and letting them die alone. But I guess us bleeding hearts are the only ones that would be bothered by something such as the cruel and unusual punishment that is dealt to the mentally incapacitated on a daily basis by the penal system.

Denton County and it's jail workers do not care if they kill you. I was in in 2007, and the overly medicated this girl as well as giving her incorrect medicine. She was turning purple and blue, and her eyes rolled in the back of her head and she laid limp for three hours before the guard notified jail officials to take her to the hospital because she didn't want to do paperwork. So the new guard came in and the lead guard came in and said "you better do the paper work that way you won't be in trouble in case this girl dies". They didn't care at all.

Dear "what Tha" you are so obviously confused that I would not trust YOUR JUDGEMENT. You obviously are not facing life nor facing death. Your fear of any real understanding of life and your denials means that that "guess what" you yourself may be mentally ill. Understand this a Human Being always conducts

Any more "bleeding hearts out there? The fact is that Denton county and the City of Denton have a history of corruption and neglect based on a "who ya know and who ya blow" mentality. What I have done is to document what they say, and when they say it, what they do and when they do it. Then it becomes apparent as to why ( motives). Most of it is shear "I don't give a shit about anyone but myself" mentality. Some is power corruption. And the rest is just the old "go along to get along" stupidity that allows the rest of the bunch to intimidate anyone who has the courage to say no!

I don't know a lot about denton, since I just recently moved here, but I do know that the employees at the City of Denton Utilites are very rude, no customer service skills at all, and their web site encourages you to pay on line to save stamps, yet they charge you 4.95 to pay online.

The Denton Police force it's self is a farce.
I was arrested last night and held in detention for 12 hours for failing to sign a citation , for get this, doing 30 in a 20.
I'm new to the Denton area and I had no idea that TWU had the ability to write traffic citations and I didn't take the guy seriously.
I did offer to sign the paper after I was confirmed that the guy was legit.
I was in detention for 12 hours.

Denton is a corrupt, prejudice city run by old white conservative racist's pigs. From the police department, Denton Municipal electric, Denton Municipal Court the whole damn system! I've gotten a ticket for walking on the wrong side of the street in Denton. There police dept, probation dept and court system have all been investigated by the F.B.I more than once as well as ther jail system. So it doesnt surprise me that this tragedy could of happened in there jail system, Pisses me off more that they get away with it time and time again. P.S. this is no way meant to b a racist thing i mention white racist because it is what it is!

It's true, Denton and Dallas County Jails are both under FBI investigation currently. Also, Denton County loves their money and they will ticket you for anything, no matter who you are. I think I got 6 tickets in the Denton/Dallas area between 2006 and 2007. Two of them I got on the way to court for other tickets! I moved to California and have had no problems sense. Denton has nothing better to do than fine people, and they are racist too, and even the minority Cops are racist toward white people! It just sucks.

But tell me- what does TWU PD have to do with "the Denton Police Force?" They're different agencies. For that matter, what does Denton PD have to do with this story, which is about a death at the Denton [i]County[/i] Jail, which is operated by the Denton Sheriff's Office?

I worked for DCSO Jail for a while, and I've certainly no love for that place. I think that they've made grave errors, and have taken some risks.

But the Denton County Sheriff's Office is NOT under a federal investigatin that I'm aware of, beyond the routine check that the FBI makes into every death that occurs in custody.

DCSO has managed to sail through every state jail inspection that it's had in the past several years, which is more than can be said of Tarrant or Dallas Counties' jails.

Sadly, however, the whole system is only as strong as the weakest link, and the ball can get dropped, resulting in tragedy. The pay is not impressive to be a jailer, and the education is poor for them. There is little public respect for the jailer, even when he or she is a very good one. I have a lot of respect for those that do it right and keep coming in. I certainly couldn't bring myself to do it. And, having been there as a fellow jailer for a while, I can tell you that, by and large, they're doing it right. Inmates are not "tuned up." Sanitation is enforced. Fighting is not tolerated. Given the fact that 1100 of the least stable people in Denton County are in that jail, 24/7, at any given time, it's actually remarkable that there aren't more frequent deaths. The inmates' attention to their own health and safety is not, on average, up to that of the average person on the street.

She was not in prison, stupid, she was in a county jail
