Until there is equity, until there are jobs that pay decent wages in our region and there is housing built that the working people in Cape Cod can actually afford - there will be a growth in 'homelessness".
I've served food in the well known homeless shelter in Hyannis. I've seen the type of people who are there, in need of help. These are not the spooks that are scaring away the tourists from Main Street.
You'd be surprised, and hopefully saddened, by how many homeless are 'presentable' looking men who are simply victims of this economy.
Too bad the town governance and conservationists are so resistant to creating a livable community based on the realities of decent, working class people.
More needs to be done to obstruct the criminal elements who ruin affordable neighborhoods that we have. Support should be there for the men and women who need a hand up ... but are not leeching off society.
