JUST vote no until the state gets higher
education in order.

Anyone checked out what the President of UNM
makes a year?

You would be amazed and all other fat cats that
run around in higher education making dumb
decisions that end up squandering taxpayer
money.

JUST VOTE NO until they show us they can spend
smartly what they already have.

Lets all make excuses for the failing youths today. It's funny how foreign kids can learn just fine in our education system. Perhaps these retards need to leave their iPods at home...

Just vote no to this absurd request - when they
actually show that they can spend our money
wisely and save where they can then maybe they
can regain our trust on their spending habits.

JUST VOTE NO!

So you are saying that parents don't have a responsibility to get their kids to school? How in the world can a teacher teach a kid who doesn't go to class or doesn't do their homework? Maybe parents should be graded, too, hmmm? Quite a few of those parents probably pull in a 'paycheck', too, just for having their kids.

I'm tired of hearing that it's the fault of the parents, the fault of the administration and the fault of the kids. Teachers at all levels must take personal responsibility for making kids successful. It's not easy and it's not simple. Teachers and schools are not held accountable for getting kids learning. We need to start grading these people and if kids are doing good, we pay them good, if kids are doing crappy, we fire 'em.
Today, once you get into a school, whether it is grade school or college, you are guaranteed a paycheck regardless of how useless you are. We pay to educate kids. These people must perform. The rest of us work in places where if we are not putting out results, we get canned. The same should apply.
No more money to the public schools. Money is not the issue. I Give A F+++ is the issue. Too many people don't GAF. You can shower these places with money, all they do is misuse it.
Hold them accountable and make them report what the money is being used for and the detailed return on the money. Bridges to nowhere get you nothing.
Pretty buildings don't teach. The latest and greatest computers don't do much for a business major, but may be valuable for a computer science student. We need to revisit what's being taught in colleges, cause we are putting kids out that don't know poop. They come to the real world and have to be taught 99 percent of what they need. Colleges need to get with the job producers to see what is needed.

Loyal Dem,
Talk to me about the return on investment. I am not seeing it. New books? What's wrong with the old books? Have the laws of physics changed lately? Are the buildings falling down? What's the scoop? How many of these kids that you are educating stay in New Mexico? If you can't throw up a large number, then there is very little return. New Mexico universities educate people for other states. Yup, right out of college I went to arizona. Seems that NM didn't have jobs. All of my friend went to Michigan. Maybe the state needs to ask the other states to pitch in for the books.
Honestly, I had better teachers in grade school. The professors at least at NMSU (not all of them) don't care about the kids learning. If you are smart, you go off and learn on your own. The schools have crazy high cheating rates. I don't see that adding more money will change this.
Return on investment. That is how all business decisions should be made. If you cannot prove an ROI, then you don't need the cash. Also, it's one thing to collect money saying it is for books, then suddenly you are transferring funds to the football team or to the departing president.
People, be smart. Vote no on any and all additional contributions to these schools until they cut out all the stupidity. Hiring their friends and relatives, giving outrageous departing gifts to those being fired, massived cheating (investigators should be all over this), and many many more things. For crying out loud, the professors are so lazy that they have the same tests each semester or they alternate on semesters. The network of kids has all of these tests. They don't even have to go to class. Just study the old tests. Then we put out kids that don't know a thing.
Not bitter and not angry. Public education must be fixed from grade school to the top. Why are you so willing to simply keep adding and taking?
I agree that we need to fix public education from the bottom up. In order for this to occur, real change is needed.

How did we get into this mess? We loyally voted for Democrats and kept them in power for 60 years. Dems currently control almost everything in NM-- House, Senate, and the courts.

Perhaps I am mistaken, but it seems to me that NM is at the bottom of most education measures. New Mexico does lead other states in some areas -- crime and underfunded state pension obligations.

SM needs backup. To the loyal Democrat, I say change your loyal vote. Give someone else a chance to implement significant change in our state.

I never said that parents don't have a responsibility. Teachers are paid to teach and to ensure that kids are learning. Currently, the public has no clue as to the success rate of teachers other than these ridiculous tests that show you can prepare kids for tests, not necessarily measuring what the kid learned. Give me any test, I don't care what test, and I will show you how to cram for it and get good grades without actually learning much.

Need to put names of teachers and metrics that show how they compare to one another. Here's the deal. You get paid to teach. So I say, you are the boss of those kids. You do what you have to so that these kids succeed. I'm not talking teaching tiddly winks either. You take your team and make them rock. If the kids succeed, so do you. If the kids fail, you do as well. It impacts your raises. If you gotta keep em after school, all night, weekends, beat em, punish em, you do it. The problem is that all of the sudden we've decided that discipline has no place in the schools. Kids are spoiled brats at all levels. We give teachers the job of teaching these kids, but no authority over the kids. In fact, we give the teachers a way to not be accountable, simply send the kids home.

You are in the business of teaching, so do your job. Yes, I'm sure parents are picking up a paycheck, if their business is teaching they nEed to perform, if their business is making donuts, they gotta cook. If their business is to doctor, etc. Any other industry, if you don't perform, you get canned and we don't get to blame the parents or our bosses, we simply get canned.

Minimitt, you should realize that without backing from administration and parents, teacher cannot force children to learn! Regardless of teachers, the bond should have been defeated? All of the universities waste money on inappropriate spending. Administration needs to learn to say no! All purchases should be justified. The justification should include how the purchase benefits the student. Employees do not need new furniture, technology, or other equipment every 6 months or every year. Enlighten yourself. Use the Freedom of Information act and find out where money is spent, then find out what is done with purchases. You would be amazed at the absolute waste in higher education. Storage rooms full of unused equipment, Aggie Fit equipment rarely used, and every employee receiving EVERYTHING they ask without any sort of demonstrated need!

I hear you. Spend time at NMSU and you can surely appreciate waste. That football program is the worst source of waste. People making ridiculous amounts of money to do nothing. Athletes being paid to work but not actually ever going to work. Professors that couldn't teach in kindergarten, much less in college. Graduate students doing the work for professors. Favoritism to the max. Insider information on how university contracts are given to friends of people who work at the university. Corruption is what most would call it. Spending a pile of millions on an Art building. Many Art jobs out there right now? Big new bookstore. Gym just for the football players. Stadium. Travel. Long list.

So now that the voting is over and counting is done, I am so thankful that the rest of the state has the foresight and consideration to have PASSED all the GO Bonds to help NMSU-A and senior centers with the construction issues and the libraries with funding to provide new books and supplies.
The Quality of Life GRT went down in flames but I assure you it will be considered again - especially when we're faced with significant funding cuts to programs county wide.
